Sunrise Windows

Sunrise has a number of dealers in North Carolina that should be available in most parts of the state. Sunrise is considered a top tier vinyl window manufacturer by most contractors, consumers and industry insiders. The only exception to this rule is their entry level Essentials models. The standard Sunrise frame is quite solid and their other upgraded models, including the Verde Vanguard and Restoration, all use this basic frame, along with some nice glass, component and part upgrades. Their top-of-the-line Restoration is one of our picks for the best replacement vinyl windows available.

Okna Windows

Okna has a a few dealers in North Carolina that may or may not be available in your region. Okna manufactures the 400, 500, 700, 800, and Starmark composite windows. All of these are considered well made, although the 500 Insul-Tec and 800 EnviroStar Series are the standouts. Consumers can select from one of two "package options", the Energy Option, which includes low-e glass and argon fills, or the Deluxe Option, which as includes foam fills in the frame and a locking screen.

Ply Gem Windows

Ply Gem has a factory in Cary, North Carolina and will certainly have dealers and distributors across the state. The company used to be a building supply distributor, but today Ply Gem has a big presence in the window market. They manufacture replacement and new construction vinyl windows that include the Contractor, Pro and Premium window models. They also sell the Mira aluminum clad wood window. Our recommendation would be the Pro or Premium vinyl window, which are well made mid range vinyl windows that should be available at a reasonable price point.

Champion Windows

Champion has a number of dealers in North Carolina, including Greensboro, Raleigh, Charlotte and Morrisville. Champion vinyl windows are well made and the company does their own installation. Champion makes a single vinyl window that comes in a variety of styles such as a single hung, double hung, casement, slider, etc. The window uses a solid glass package (Cardinal 366 glass); their double pane window offers a U-value 0.29, AI 0.17 and SHGC 0.19 - these are respectable numbers in a vinyl window. The company is known for having a more aggressive sales approach, which may turn some consumers off.

Replacement Windows in Raleigh, NC Area

Hey Dane, we were given the usual "promotional home" price from Apex today. They gave us a quote of $25,885 plus tax for 26 windows. We have original wood windows on a home that was built in the 80s.

Any recommendations for companies in the Raleigh, NC area?

Thanks!

Apex Insignia Windows vs. Kelly Restoration windows

Dane, we are replacing “some” of the windows in our home. We did 3 kitchen windows with Anderson but they were pricey. This time we have interviewed Apex with their Insignia windows and Kelly with their Restoration windows, both window companies in Cary (Raleigh). The Restoration windows have two locks on them which is the first window I have seen with two.

Our home was built in 1995 and is a good home for us as a retirement home.

You have told others about Soft-Lite Classic Plus and I found only one company in Durham (12-15 miles from here) that has it.

The Aluminum Company does a lot of advertising on the radio so not sure that would raise their costs compared to Apex and Kelly. But it seems that they get lots and lots of customers.

Your note to Theresa, I am going to send you my list of recommended windows for you to peruse. I would get three to four bids from this list -- [this list is available upon request.]

Could you send us a list also for the Raleigh, NC area?

So Appreciate your time!

Best Charlotte North Carolina Replacement Windows

Hi Dane, I just stumbled across your website, and it has some very good info. Thank you! Do you have a list of recommended replacement window companies in the Charlotte NC area?

I have received estimates from Apex Energy Solutions and Renewal By Andersen. Andersen is slightly higher. But, as you have pointed out, Apex's unusual "Promotional Home" program cuts their project cost in half.

The Andersen rep is pointing out that the Apex Insignia window is vinyl, not comparable to his, and for us to "be careful and research on why vinyl windows fail."

What are you thoughts, and are there other replacement window companies in the Charlotte NC area that we should consider before making a decision?

Thanks!

Fort Bragg North Carolina Window Recommendations

Dane, we are in the Ft Bragg area of NC, and just finished a sales pitch from RBA. For 14 double hung windows started off at $53k. By the time all the discount went in, Vet, AARP, buy today, cash today and a “hey, I really like you folks extra 5%”, it was $36851, that’s $2,632 and some change per window, I almost thought I was going to have to do CPR on my wife! Then we got the, buy just one now and it locks in your price for the next 5 yrs……!!!! Needless to say, I found your info while sitting there listening to him they to sale me when I found your data. I really need that list of good and great options.

[Site Editor's Answer]

Erin, that sounds like an RBA pitch. 14 windows for $36K -- those guys really do have some gall. However, windows have gotten expensive so do keep that in mind. To that end, here is a list of window options that might serve you well -- contact us for our list.

Best Window Sliders

We're replacing our double hung windows with sliders and were wondering if some companies make better sliders than others.

Brad - Homeowner - from 2016

[Site Editor's Response]

Brad I assume from your email address that you are in North Carolina. Yes, the better window companies make better sliders, just as they make better single hungs and double hungs etc. In your area, I would recommend trying to get a bid from Sunrise and Okna dealers. Each of these companies ought to have local companies who service your area and they should carry several models or series from these particular companies.

For instance, Sunrise makes 5 different models and Okna makes 3, each of which will has a different price point and quality of features and parts. Get pricing on each of them and then decide which model fits your budget. Besides the entry level from Sunrise (the Essentials series), any of the other models should serve you quite well.

Sunrise and Okna are both in my top five vinyl window company recommendations - and no I'm not incentived in any way to say so :)
