Amcraft Window Costs vs Wallside

We decided to go with Wallside windows. A few people I work with said they have been happy with windows from them. None who have had them installed are all that old, so longevity wise hopefully we get a good number of years out of them.

I called Wallside and they came the next day to give us a quote. $6,000 for 8 windows and a patio door. No pressure sales tactics which I was kinda preparing for. He did show us a sample window, only salesman out of the 3 who did. The only thing I would say they try to trip you up with is quoting a cash or financing price. To finance they say it is 0% for 5 years but the price jumps to $7,200. Also the salesman did do the whole $14,000 but we have half off every window deal going right now. All in all 1 hour to write everything up wasn't bad. I'm not sure if he came in that low to beat the other bids I had or not but he came in $300 lower than the Amcraft window quote. We have a May 10th install date so hopefully the process goes smoothly.

Thanks again. I will be referring people to this site who are looking into windows. Tons of good info.

Amcraft Windows Prices

I'm trying to get a handle on a quote for replacement windows for my home. The installer quoted Simonton Grand Estates View windows, but I'm having trouble finding information on these windows. Do you happen to know anything about them? Lastly, the job quote came in at about $5500 to replace 10 windows. How does that sound?

Thanks so much!

Travis, I believe that this window is manufactured by Amcraft, instead of Simonton, although it's difficult to know of every window model, series, etc.

If it is Amcraft, I'm not a huge fan, although I like several Simonton models well enough. Amcraft is more of an entry level building products company.

Amcraft vs Simonton Windows

I'm in Central Florida and just got quotes on PGT5400, Simonton Grand Estates Original, and PGT Series 400 PGT's are single hung and energy star and Grand Estates is dh and energy star. What are the best windows?

Frank, you have some good choices there, kudos to you. The Grand Estates Original is made by Simonton and relabeled or rebadged by Amcraft. In general, Simonton windows are a good mid range vinyl window so I'll assume that this is the same for the Grand Estates Original - it appears that the Original is the mid range series, between the Grand Estates and Grand Estates Premier and Premier Plus models. The Amcraft windows warranty is not as strong as the Simonton warranty, but is a limited lifetime warranty on most frame, hardware and component parts.

Having said this, PGT makes a better vinyl window in my opinion. The 400 model is a bit of an older model, but quite a nice window that can be upgraded to an impact window if you need this. I like the PGT 5400 window, lots of industry people look down on the single hung (often with good reason), but I like a well made single hung. There are less moving parts to fail and you get much of the same benefit in terms of ventilation and ease of cleaning. I think the 5400 series looks quite nice as well. This is the one I would go with, assuming that the installation is solid and the project price is right.

Let me know how it goes!
