Hello - are there any window suggestions in the vinyl mid frame that I can buy or have a window installer buy? Like Okna is great but they only have certain installers who put high pressure to buy ALL or they dont like to even come out. I live in the hudson valley NY and you're list is not suggesting the brands at the big box stores.

His email says " those United Windows that I was telling you about. They're lower line comes in around $200 per window and they're higher line is about 275-300". Is there any suggested window brand that we can order ourselves w.out having to be an auth dealer/installer?

[Site Editor's Answer]

Scott, most quality windows are sold through authorized dealers/companies -- that's just the way it is. Certain contractors have access to a number of different brands, but finding the ones who sell quality windows in your area wouldn't be something that I could help you with. The big box stores sell a few decent windows, but again it's regional, so I can't tell you what they carry. I know out west some of them carry the Andersen 100 window, which I consider a good window. Reliabilt gets decent reviews, but I also hear a lot of complaints about problems that crop up.

The only way to buy windows yourselves is through the home improvement stores -- here's what I would do -- go to the big box stores and ask them which vinyl window they would put in their house -- Simonton, Andersen 100 (not Silverline), or even the wood-clad Jeld Wen (I'm not a big fan of their vinyl windows). Then find a local installer using Angles List, craigslist, etc. that has lots of high quality reviews and call them up and ask them to come out and give you a bid.

The Okna 400 window with the Deluxe energy package - $600.

The Okna 500 window with the Deluxe energy package - $650.

The Sunrise Standard window with the Ultra-U Plus glass - $620.
The Sunrise Vanguard window with the Ultra-U Plus glass - $665.

The Silverline 9500 window - $485.
The Silverline 8600 window - $445.
Silverline 1200 window - $380.

The United Windows 4800 window - $307. This price does not include installation however.
