Universal Windows Direct Prices

Explore Universal Windows Direct prices and customer reviews on the company and their UniShield Plus window series.

What They Sell: The Unishield Plus is actually a relabeled Polaris ThermalWeld, which is Polaris's drop down series from their premium UltraWeld series. (Drop down kinda means their second best - you probably knew this, but worth a mention.) The company provides a number of home improvement services across the mid west region, including replacement windows, vinyl siding, and doors.

Is The Company Any Good? In terms of what they sell, yes. The Unishield Plus is a very solid series whose double hung delivers a 0.06 air infiltration rate (the upgraded Polaris UltraWeld window delivers a 0.01 AI FYI). I consider a 0.06 AI to be VERY good - but maybe not quite excellent. When combined with quality installation, the Unishield Plus series should serve most consumers quite well. In my review on the Polaris ThermalWeld window, I rate it a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The company generally gets solid reviews in terms of their installation and customer service.

Branch Locations: Within the state of Ohio, the company has branches in Cleveland, Akron, Cincinnati, and Columbus. Additional locations include Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte (NC), Chicago, Dallas, and Denver. The company also sells through additional authorized retail locations.

UWD vs ProVia

We are replacing 19 windows in our homes and have narrowed them down to the following:

Universal Windows Direct UniShield: $16.6K
Provia Endure: $20.5K
Okna 600: $21K

Was curious what your take is on these three?

Kerry - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Kerry, I think the Universal Windows Direct UniShield is the best window for that price. Very good window and that's a solid price point.

Universal Windows Direct Prices

I have collected a whole slew of bids and would be very interested to get your take and also which are your top three picks here. Thanks so much, love your site!

Okna 800: $29.5K
Marvin Infinity: $28K
Okna 500: $27.5K
Marvin Infinity: $23K
Alside Revelation: $23K
Universal Windows UniShield Plus: $23K
Gentek Signature Elite: $18K
Harvey Tribute: $17.3K
Provia Endure Windows Cost: $16.5K
Harvey Slimline: $15.3K

Terry - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Terry, the Provia Endure at that price is my number one. The Harvey Tribute would be two, and the Signature Elite would be three. I also like the Marvin Infinity, but that is quite a bit more. The vinyl vs fiberglass window question is always one that is difficult to suss out. Those are my top four picks! Harvey Windows Cost

Universal Windows Direct Cost vs Mezzo

I have a real problem and was hoping that you could help.

I need to replace 10 double hungs, 2 of which require tempered glass and all with grids. I don't plan to be in this house for more than say 3 years. Because of my timeline, I'm leaning toward the Alside Mezzo series. What say you?

UniShield Plus Series: $9860

Okna 600 Series: $9000

Alside Mezzo Cost: $7350

Thanks.

Ryan - Homeowner - from 2022

[Site Editor Reply]

Ryan, if your timeline is only 3 years in the home, then go with the Alside Mezzo. The Okna 600 is the best long term value, but it doesn't make sense to spend the extra money because you will never see any of it back in that short a time.

Hi Dane, can you forward me a list of companies to contact re: vinyl replacement windows? I plan to stay in my home for 10 yrs or more and will be replacing 11 aluminum windows that have to be at least 25 yrs old. I am located in South NJ.

Currently I have received :

Unishield Plus Cost: $19,700.00

Thanks so much!!

Universal Window Direct Prices

Dane, thanks for the info! I do have one follow up question, if I may.

We just received a final quote from U-W-D. They quoted on 7 windows of their UniShield plus model with a Double Lifetime warranty on EVERYTHING, to include pieces, parts and materials; Glass systems and frames, All locks and hardware, and all installation and labor. Final all in price of $8265!

Is this a decent quote?

Thanks for all you do to help us consumers become better educated and better aware of trending market shifts and costs associated!

Joe - Homeowner - from 2022

[Site Editor Reply]

Joe, I would say this is a solid quote. I would love to see a couple more to compare them to, but I'd say you have a very good start here.

Universal Windows Direct Cost Quote

Hi Dane, we got a quote for 12 windows from Universal Window Direct for $13,500. We are on the 2nd floor in a condo in Chicago, IL and the windows are various sizes. Not sure if that’s enough information to tell me if that’s a fair quote.

The salesman came down from 16k to 13k through various discounts trying to get us to commit so we are wondering if the price is still too high.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Julie - Homeowner - from 2022

[Site Editor Reply]

Julie, anything over $1K a window requires more bids in my opinion. That price might be fair market, but you'll never know until you collect two to three more as comparison.

Universal Window Direct Cost

Dane, so glad I stumbled onto your review site. I got the following quotes for 23 replacement vinyl windows in Central NJ. Any thoughs?

Window World 4000 series - $18600

Universal Window UniShield $17500

Factory Direct NJ – Vinil Pro $19500

Castle Windows Prices: $28446

Ideal Majestic $25K

Danny - Homeowner - from 2022

[Site Editor Reply]

Danny, the bid that really catches my eye is the UniShield Plus $17500. I did a quick google search for Universal Windows central jersey reviews and they have strong ratings / reviews. The Unishield is actually a relabeled Polaris Ultraweld, which is a very good window. The other window I really like is the Ideal Majestic, but the $7500 upgrade cost doesn't make any sense. The UltraWeld is just as good as the Majestic, and you save a LOT of money. I think this is a no brainer!

Unishield Plus Price Quote

Hi Dane, thanks for responding to my previous message. So I have a couple more bids and here they are: 8 total

Okna InsulTec with deluxe energy package: $9,813

Sunrise Standard Series with insulated frame and Omege12 glass: $9,813

Vytex Fortis Foam filled sash with energy saver plus: $8,430

Unishield Plus Cost: $9,305

Pella 250 Series: $11,650

Wincore 7700 $13,000

Of these, which do you think I should go for? Should I try and get some more quotes before making a decision?

Thanks!

Alex - Homeowner - from 2022

[Site Editor Reply]

Alex, if you are planning to stay in your home long term, I would go with the Okna InsulTec with deluxe energy package: $9,813. If your timeline is 12 years or less, I'd go with the Vytex Fortis Foam filled sash with energy saver plus: $8,430.

Universal Windows Direct Cost

Hello Dane, I have had 2 quotes so far.

Universal Window Direct price quote on the Unishield Plus. Sizes w39x59, 39x51, 39x39. $2800

ImproveIT price quote on the Performa x54. $5575. Although I do think they have some wiggle room. Their warranty sounds really good. One thing I was concerned about. Their window seems chunky. I would loose some out side light.

Do you have any recommendations? opinions? Or even point me in a different direction?

I have thought about window nation and zen. Soft lite, Pella Impervia.

Im located in Columbus Ohio

Thank you.

John - Homeowner - from 2021

[Site Editor's Answer]

John, the reviews on Universal Window Direct of Columbus Ohio are about the same as ImproveIt, so it's a wash there. The Polaris Unishield is a good window, I have never heard of Performax54 -- so the Unishield wins in my book there (there aren't THAT many windows I haven't heard of so they can't be that great...). The cost is the big kicker for me -- Universal is the much better deal here.

Here is my list for you to take a look at...

Universal Window Direct Prices

We are looking at replacing 22 windows in our home, some casements, some fixed on a south facing atrium ranch home. We had Universal quote around $30K including a sliding glass door. Their window looked interesting but I did not see it on your list. Any thoughts?

We also had a quote on Alside Mezzo for around $20K but after reading your comments we are not interested.

I did read your comments on Okna windows. Not sure if they are available in Missouri.

We are still getting more quotes.

Eric - Homeowner - from 2021

[Site Editor's Answer]

Eric, from everything I know Universal Window Direct sells a relabeled ThermalWeld or UltraWeld -- still not quite sure which model. If you feel comfortable, please ask which model (or ask what the air infiltration rate, which will tell me which series they are selling you). A very good window, especially in the UltraWeld, but that's a very pricey bid for what you require.

Not quite sure what is available in Missouri, but here is a list of brands I like. [List redacted]

[Site Editor's Answer]

Thank you for your response. I enjoyed reading your website and appreciated that it was independent with great information.

We wound up placing an order with Window Nation. They are providing Vytex Potomac and Grandview. We are getting 17 new windows and 1 sliding door for around $18K. Now the waiting game starts on installation quoted at around 11 weeks.

We have 7 very tall 82"x30" windows in the back of the house which he would not quote as they were too tall for Vytex. Incidentally, these appear to be made by Anderson and they are not in as poor condition as my builder grade windows in the rest of the house.
