Average Cost of Replacement Windows :: 2024

RBA Pricing

I live here in Long Island and want to replace my vinyl windows (2nd floor). 14 windows. RBA quoted us $38564, which seems quite expensive. Any recommendations?

Ari - Homeowner - from 2024

[Site Editor's Answer]

Ari, RbA is always very expensive -- right at the top of most replacement windows. Here is my list for you to continue your search.

Average Cost of Replacement Windows :: 2023

Average Vinyl Windows Price

Hi Dane, just watched your 2023 window overview. Agreed almost impossible to get a direct answer given so many variables.

We're looking for mid-range double-hungs to replace very old, if not original, single pane 6x6 divided light, drafty windows in our late 1800's farmhouse. I'm relatively handy and contemplating doing this myself but want to see what the savings (time and $$) might be vs. hiring a professional installer. We have our first appointment with a local home center/window distributor/installer but agree multiple quotes are best as long as they are apples-to-apples.

I'd appreciate your list of recommended installers in our area of northern VT, zip code 05845, as we begin this journey!

What's the average cost of just the window itself in 2023? Vinyl is what I'm looking at. Thanks in advance...

Jay - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Jay, here my list of recommended brands and options. DIY is a crapshoot in terms of who will sell to you -- you might have a shot with Okna Windows -- I have heard some of the dealers will sell directly. Let me know if you find others so that we can help other DIYers like yourself in the future!

Man, it is so tough to say what the average cost is amongst 1000 sellers across the country. I'll put it at $500 for a mid range mid size vinyl - not including the window installation cost.

Window MSRP???

What I don’t get is why don’t manufacturers have an MSRP for each window they sell? I understand there are variances in size and price but there are common sizes that can have MSRP for comparison.

Don - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Don, I think the main reason is that unlike a washing machine, which is made the same way 100,000 times over and shipped off to retail stores, replacement windows are custom made for each project based on the size of the opening. Then you have the window glass package. You have the hardware selection. Grids or no grids. Lift rail option. Foam fill option.

Then you have the lineal price that the window manufacturer sells to the dealer that you buy from. This price per lineal foot is often based on dealer sell volume, so the more windows a dealer sells the better price they get. The dealer has an "MSRP" price more or less, but they have no economic interest in sharing this with the consumer because then they have to justify the bid price that they then give to consumers.

Basically, it's 50% simply too complicated an equation and 50% a racket to make more money off the backs of consumers. But...that is the free market economy in all of its glory and ugliness. Sorry, do I sound jaded? :)

Average Cost Of Replacement Windows In PA.

I have been all over your website looking for help in shopping for windows. Here is my problem. I live smack dab in the middle of PA, 3 hrs from Philly, 3 hrs from Pittsburgh, 3 hours from Erie and 3 hours from Scranton. I managed to find a Polaris dealer 1.5 hours away and an OKNA dealer 1.5 hrs away. I can't find any other dealers that sell any of the middle or highly rated windows. Due to the distance the Polaris bid came in at 16200 - 18300 depending g on if he has to come 2 or 3 days for 13 double hung and one slider. Polaris Windows Prices

I was hoping for no more than 1000/ window installed. OKNA dealer coming next week. Only local places are multiple window worlds, 7D, Wincore, MI Sunrise, simonton. I have a nice home that I plan to stay in at least 10 years and want good vinyl windows. So. Does it make sense to try and buy Polaris or OKNA windows and have a local contractor install? Do any of these companies sell direct?

Are there any of these available brands that make a decent window? I don't mind paying for quality but the "average" Polaris bid is 1150 to 1300/ window and I think is the " I don't really want to do this job because it's too far away" price.

Kelli - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Kelli, I think the best approach is to collect the bids from Polaris, Okna, Wincore, and Simonton (although my take is that the Reflections 5500 series and the 9800 Impressions series are the only real viable options from this brand). I think with these 4 bids in your pocket, you should be well provisioned to make a good decision - especially if you’re only going to be living there for 10 plus years.

So maybe collect your 4 bids and then let’s circle back and compare the brands/series, prices, and installation companies and pick the one that provides the most value…

Restorations vs Eco Pro 600

Dane, this is what I have and the sizes.

Double hungs 11 each 36x46, 2 each 28x38, 1 each 36x38, 6 each 20x46, 2 each 32x46,

Picture 2 each 60x46, and 1 each 48x46

Kelly Window and Door was $31840 for Sunrise Restorations windows

Aluminum company was $23917 for Okna Eco Pro 600

Neil - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Neil, wow, both of those companies have excellent reviews. And $8K difference, which is ALOT -- kind of a no brainer for me - I like Okna better than Sunrise anyway!

Average Cost Cost To Replace Windows

Hey Dane, wanted to thank you first of all for this amazing resource you've put together here. Its been refreshing to find it after my 8 replacement quotes, each more opaque than the last.

My house is 30 year old brick with 34 builder grade original wood clads. Andersen and pella want me to spend around 1800 on replacements while window world, window depot, and window source are obviously more reasonable at between 700-900 each. A couple local places want to sell provia and sunrise in the 1000 - 1100 range respectively. Im in winston salem NC and based on some numbers ive seen in your videos and elsewhere, these prices all seem a little high.

Were fine with a vinyl window and the frontrunner seemed to be the sunrise dealer since it was the middle ground between the $23k window world and $60k andersen. The sunrise dealer wants $41k with cladding and $36k without. Being a brick house with wood trim elsewhere, it seemed like an ok tradeoff to stick with the wood brick mold but they think Im crazy. Cladding being one of those things that I've certainly overthought in this process. Some looks fine, others terrible. So are these last two the average cost cost to replace windows these days?

I’m not sure what Im asking here except for a little value and labor insight. I'm sure im overthinking the cladding aspect but would welcome your thoughts there as well. Thanks again for the resource.

Chris - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Christopher, thank you for the kind words on the site. Based on the numbers you are seeing, it’s very possible that you’re looking at that $1K per/window/price (especially if this is full frame replacement). If it’s retrofit, then maybe I’d question it. The other issue is price inflation, which is so hard to account for because it can often be related to the specific area. (For instance, I’ll get people in the Bay Area who get angry because they say my pricing is so low because many parts of the Bay Area are quite expensive…or inflated based on wages.)

Labor Cost To Install Windows

At any rate, ProVia Endure windows cost for $1K per/window fully installed from a company with good to stellar reviews, that’s not out of bounds. That is a really good window. So too with the Sunrise, although I would personally rather have the Endure over the Sunrise “Classic” or standard window. If you upgrade to the Restorations series, then it’s a dead heat.

If the exterior wood trim is important to you, then go for it. Have you seen the interior wood grains that Sunrise and ProVia offer — they are pretty nice!

Window World vs Okna

I have two vinyl window estimates for 18 window openings. These are them:

Okna 600 Windows $14,700.

Window World 4000 Windows $11,000.

Which do you think is the better option?

Jeff - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

For me, the Okna 600 just is the better overall choice. Such a better unit.

Pella 250 Series Windows Cost

HI Dane, I am looking to replace my windows in my rental property in Orlando. I am looking at Pella 250 ($27,500) and Simonton 9800 ($23,500). I am leaning towards Simonton because of price and reviews on installations vs Pella. What are your thoughts? Pella 250 Series Windows Cost

13- 69x51 sliders

4 -25x36 double hung

1-25x25 double hung

Thanks!

William - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

William, yes, I probably agree with your choice — the Simonton 9800 series is on par in quality and craftsmanship with the Pella 250 so it makes sense to go with the cheaper option. But the installation portion of this is going to be based on the actual company doing the work so that’s the comparison you should make. That would play a big part for me — I think you are on the right track though!

Average Cost of Replacement Windows

Hi Dane, we are in East Palatka Florida on the St. Johns River. Our home has 33 window units and 4 sliding glass doors.

Most of ourss have list the Argon gas between the panes. Please share your recommended Florida list. We had Andersen out but can't afford the over $200000. (Andersen Renewal Cost) they quoted! What would you say is the average cost of replacement windows?

Thank you.

Linda - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Linda, here is the list. I would say the average cost of replacement windows is $750 each fully installed. I would say the average cost to replace sliding glass door is $2500 each fully installed. So that would put you at roughly $30K -- I know it sounds like a lot, but trust me you want to do it right the first time and never have to do it again!

Typical Window Replacement Cost

I have a quote of $8100 for 6 Okna 500 double hung, and 1 Okna 500 2LS - installed. This is in the Northern Virginia area. Okna 500 Windows Cost

Does this look good? Is this pretty typical?

Subrato - Homeowner - from 2022

[Website Editor Answers]

Subrato, it is pretty typical pricing, but it does seems kinda overpriced to me. Great series though, one of the best -- I'd gather a few more leads to suss this out more though. You might be able to find something that is better priced.

Decent Window At A Decent Price

Wincore makes a decent window with a decent price, and it gets decent window ratings. They don't have AAMA or WDMA certification, which is kind of a problem but they are still new. If they don't step up then they'll fold in a few years, which is a shame because they have some real engineering talent.

West Coast Options

In 2005 I put in Amerimax replacement vinyl windows and I love them. I looked at a lot of others - CertainTeed, Milgard, Window World. The Amerimax are priced somewhat higher to the CertainTeeds and Milgard windows. They look good, they are much quieter, and my electric bills are a little lower than before. The double hungs that tilt are so easy to clean, too!

Superior Windows

Superior makes a good, reliable vinyl window. They recently came out with a new screen with a super fine mesh that makes it much less noticeable. The lift handle is extruded, too, so it doesn't have the ugly grip tabs that a lot of windows have. The price differences are just a part of the window comparison game. It can be frustrating to try and figure out which is better when the warranties, efficiency ratings, and everything else are a little different. Superior is often a good bit cheaper than other brands that are similar in quality, mainly because they do almost no marketing. They also run a lot of specials, so if you aren't in a huge hurry and they are priced a little out of your budget, you can always wait a little bit and there is guaranteed to be a deal soon. They have a reputation for great customer service. Window Replacement Cost
