Windows By Unlimited vs. Window World
We are replacing 34 window in our mid century house that we just purchased here in Wisconsin. We have 2 quotes so far from windows by unlimited and from Window World. Both for dual pane, argon gas, low e, vinyl windows.
I cannot find very much info on these windows. About the same price.

Jim, I think both of these companies sell a lower end vinyl window. Although I don't know a ton about Windows By Unlimited, I think I would trust them over Window World. It would depend on the specific reviews of the Window World, some of which has good reviews and some have quite poor reviews.
I'm always very hesitant in recommending local companies that sell an entry end product at a low cost. I think they tend to sound good at the get go and then can cost you more money in the long run.

Beth, I have never heard of Windows By Unlimited, but this is what I found out. Windows By Unlimited has been in business since the late 60s and is a Wisconsin based company. I did watch their video on youtube.com, which is pretty rah, rah, rah (not surprisingly), but a good video that seems to focus on a small but proud vinyl window manufacturing process.
I just wish that after 40 years in the business, there was one online review from one customer, I can't find anything. The builder in the first part of the video who has been using their windows for quite some time said that the triple pane double hung had a .21 U-factor, which is good. But I'd like to hear about the air infiltration, VT, CR, SHGC, DP, etc. to have a better idea as to the overall performance.
The company doesn't post any some energy efficiency data on their website. As well, the company isn't listed on the nfrc.org website, which posts performance data on hundreds of window companies in the U.S.
If it were me, I would get the energy numbers from the local rep to have more information. My gut tells me these are okay vinyl windows, but there is so little information that I can't say that for sure.
