Windowestore vs Simonton Windows

Tim, I stumbled upon your website while looking for new construction windows. The information you're providing consumers is top notch. It's very confusing trying to find windows with so many manufactures and brands. Anyways, I was wondering if you could provide some advice as to which window company to use for new construction.

I'm just north of Dallas in Sherman TX and am looking for approximately 30 windows and a slider for the home we're building. Additionally if you could provide input on which type of window, aluminum or vinyl.

I have gotten 1 quote thus far from windowestore that uses Simonton windows. That quote was $14,000 windows only.

We're building a steel home with 6 inch thick exterior walls and spray foam insulation if that matters. This is a 1 story home with a 12' wrap around porch. Suggestions on a mid grade and top level window would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your input!

Eric, here are five solid mid to high end manufacturers in Texas.

Sunrise windows (vinyl)
Don Young (aluminum)
Zen (vinyl)
Milgard (vinyl and aluminum)
NT windows (vinyl)

Windowestore Simonton Series Question

Hi Tim, I saw your response to a question asked HERE asking about windowestore.com and the particular models of Simonton windows they sell. I was wondering the same thing. I know the windowestore.com sells Simonton windows but was wondering which models of Simonton windows they sell for each of EcoTru, EcoXtreme, and EcoStorm. I was at the Simonton website and it's quite unorganized in terms of their various models and their naming conventions and how they differ from each other.

Any insight you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

Wayne, I agree with you that Simonton is not clear on their website about their window series. Part of that is that they name different windows for different regions of the country. Part of it is a complicated dealer/distirbution system. Regardless, it's tricky to navigate.

I would call up Windowestore and ask them specifically which Simonton model each of THEIR models is most similar to. If they can't answer, then you should probably be wary about going with them. I never have an issue with a company selling a relabeled or rebadged window, but if they don't know or won't tell you what they are actually selling, it puts up a big red flag for me.

Window eStore Window Review

I am looking into buying replacement windows online. I am looking at windowestore.com From my research it seems they are selling Simonton windows. Do you know which models it is they are selling? What I am looking for is are they selling the quality models or the bad ones. They name them something different on their site than what is on the Simonton site. Any advice or thoughts regarding Window e Store would be very helpful. Thanks

[Site Editor's Answer]

Brent, I took a look at the website and the window lines they list include the ecoTru, ecoXtreme and the ecoStorm. I have never heard of this particular brand, nor have I evre heard of windowestore (therer are 100s of small regional window companies like this across the U.S.). Ask them who makes them, it's not uncommon for a window company to relabel and resell a window. If they make them themselves, ask them to provide you with the U-value, SHGC, visible transmittance, condensation resistance, design pressure, and air infiltration.

In general, Simonton makes a good window, although I would stay away from their entry level models and series.

Feel free to shoot me the bid price, number of windows, and the performance numbers above and I can give you my opinion.

Okna and Zen windows should be available in your area. These are both excellent vinyl window manufacturers!
