Are Window World Windows Any Good

Are Window World Windows Any Good? Let's find out by taking a closer look at the company itself, what they sell and some tips in terms of what to look for when it comes to WW.

Bottom Line: Window World's lower end window series are builder grade and probably won't provide consumers with a good long term investment. However, their premium windows are good (but maybe not great) and consumers should consider these if the price point is right and your local WW branch has good to great online reviews.

"For the most part, WW specializes in more or less builder grade vinyl windows. (Not true with the company's more premium windows, which they label their 6000 series.) Often, their premium option is the Alside Ultramaxx, which is actually quite a decent vinyl window. Maybe not a top tier option, but not too far off that mark either."

Are Window World Windows Any Good

Company Information

Window World was started back in 1995 in Wilmington, North Carolina - the original idea or goal of the company was to sell a low cost vinyl window to homeowners across the United States. And with this as the guiding principle, the company has been very successful.

Company Structure

Window World has over 200 branches - all of them franchises. This means that the Window World in your hometown is independently owned and operated. Different branches can carry different windows, although they are labeled the same: the Window World 3000, 4000 or 6000 series.

What They Sell

WW does not manufacture their own windows, instead they sell relabeled or rebadged windows, which is a fairly common practice in the industry. Over the years, Window World has sold brands such as AMI, MI, and Alside, amongst others. For instance the Window World 3000 series is often actually the MI1650 series, but that isn't always the case. I will say this, the move on Window World's part toward Simonton vinyl windows and Wincore for its impact windows are both really positives in my book.

Nonetheless, it does highlight that as a consumer, you need to ask what the actual window is that you're buying. It would be like buying a car from a well known car dealer, but they don't tell you which car you're actually selling you - just their mid range car line? And yet this is what happens everyday with Window World.

The bottom line here is this: if you do get a bid from Window World, make sure you know what window they are selling you. If they are unwilling to tell you, well, I would take the bid and then politely place it in a drawer and forget about it. The second point about the fact that they are franchises, is that you need to check the online reviews of the Window World in your area specifically to make sure they have a good to great reputation. And some do, but others do not so make sure to your due diligence in both of these areas.

Window World Warranty

Al series do come with a limited lifetime warranty, but there are all sorts of ways that warranties can let you down over the years, especially if you didn't purchase the windows yourself. The Window World warranty is pretty straight forward and very readable, so if you're considering them, spend 10 minutes checking it out online to dig in to what it covers and what it doesn't cover.

Window World Prices

Window World often starts out with a teaser price - like a $350 installed per window price, which is meant to be eye catching, but is also a bare bones price. So, for instance, getting a screen will add to that cost, as will low-e glass, grids, non metallic spacers, foam filled frame, etc. All of these add ons will bump up that per window price. The question then becomes, by the time you've upgraded to a window that provides good energy efficiency, how much has the price point jumped. And the follow up question should be "is this the best replacement window I can buy at this price point."

Our Advise

Collect Multiple Bids - for a few reasons. One you get to see how local companies bid out your project and you will be amazed at how varied those price points can be. Two, you get to check out different windows - how they operate, their features, available options, etc. Three, get to know different companies so you can check out their online ratings and find which are well reviewed and which you should pass on.
