Window Recommendations For Chicagoland

Hello Dane, thank you so much for providing your recommendations for windows in the Chicagoland area, it should be a good starting point for me. By the way I just received a quote yesterday from Apex for $44K for 34 mostly casement windows, a couple are fixed windows. I haven't done my research yet but I thought it seemed high. They stopped by my house on Tuesday so I told them to go ahead and scheduled a sales call since I knew I wanted to start looking to get my windows replaced.

Another thing I learn from them is they do what is called an "insert" replacement which is to basically remove the window up to the jamb/frame but not to the rough opening and then insert the new window. What do you think about that method? I was thinking they would take out the entire window/frame and leave just the rough opening to put in the new window. I'm learning already.

Also, I appreciate you offering to review any future quotes I get.

Thanks again.

Best Windows in Illinois

I am thinking about bidding on a 1996 built house in Geneva IL. The 16 original window double hung wood windows are shot. The seals and putty are falling apart and almost every single window is foggy or has moisture between the two layers.

I want high quality replacement windows. I don't care if they are wood clad, vinyl, fibrex or anything else. I just want high quality, no maintenance windows that will last 20+ years. I was thinking of single hung cuz I never open the top windows. I want to pay for top quality features, not just a name.

Can you give me some ideas?

Chicago Window & Doors

Hello, I am torn between using Chicago Window & Doors window replacement window company and Forde window company. What do you know about either? Appreciate your opinion.

I live in Chicago Illinois where the wind can get very brutal. I live on the 9th floor, the HOA only recommends windows that can withstand 60 miles an hr wind and windows must be bronze on the exterior. Which type window would recommend?

Terri, Forde has excellent ratings, just like Chicago Window & Doors. I didn’t love the brands that CWD carried and couldn’t figure out which ones Forde carried. How about this: get bids from both, send them to me and I’ll probably have a better opinion then…
