American Windows

Dane, thanks for taking the time to read my email. I am looking to replace 12 double hungs sometime within the next couple of months. I live in Glasgow, Kentucky which is about 30 miles from Bowling Green, Kentucky. There are so many options/brands, that's it beginning to make my head swim and lose consciousness. I realize you get what you pay for, so I'm not looking for a cheap window. Capital Window and Door in Bowling Green are going to measure for the windows. I was told they recommend American windows. In reading some of your research, these do not come highly recommended. Lowe's has Pella, Reliabilt, Anderson. ( Reliabilt Windows Reviews )

If you were looking to replace 12 double hungs with a good and reliable company who stands behind their windows, who would be your choice? I realize there are a lot of other factors that come into play, but I'm looking for somewhere to start. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask and I will try to answer them for you. Thanks again for you assistance.

George, here is a list of recommended windows to look at - hopefully some will be available in your area...collect 4 bids from companies that rep these brands and then see where you are. It's a process, but it pays off in the long run...

American Windows Review

Hello Dane: I am planning to get all my 50-year-old wooden windows replaced and have been getting quotes for the same. I have found your website informative and useful in educating myself with the "window world" - so far, I had mastered only Microsoft Windows but now I can say I have some basic knowledge of other but real "windows" thanks to your website.

My project (I live in northern Virginia) is:

24 double-hung with grid windows
2 picture windows without grid
3 basement slider windows

I have received the following quotes:

Window Nation for Barrington (SoftLite) - $18,998
Window World Alside Mezzo - $15,044
Window Man Marvin Infinity - $32,806
Window Universe Revere's Berkshire Elite- $20,929
American Windows Sunrise Restorations - $19,200
American Windows Vytex Fortis - $17,975
I would really appreciate your thoughts and advice as to which one you think represents the best quote to go with? Also, could I also ask them lower the price by say $500?

Many thanks in advance.

Sanjay, lots of good quotes there. If this were my project, I would rank the top two as the American Windows for Sunrise Restorations for $19,200 and American Windows for Vytex Fortis for $17,975. They seem to be a highly rated company so this is who I give the nod to...unless you are planning to be out of there in 10 years or less. Then I'd go with the Window World Alside Mezzo for $15,044.

I think the Sunrise Restorations is worth the $1200 bump for sure over the Fortis. I would go back to them and show them the Alside Mezzo quote and say that that was your original budget and yes you know they are a better window but if they could come close to matching it, then you would sign the work order that day. They won't match it, but they might drop the price for you...
