ClimateGuard Windows Reviews

Dane, my wife and I have gotten bids for replacement windows from high end to lower end vinyl windows from different manufacturers and installers and we are nowhere near the prices you or others online post. Frames and sills are in good condition. Windows are original 1979. They are two double hung right next to each other- so essentially in the same frame. No one quoting us has said these are in anyway hard to fit, or more costly because of this layout.

We have gotten quotes for Pella, Sunrise, ClimateGuard, Marvin, Renewal by Anderson. Even the Sunrise come it at $2500 to $3500 installed. Any ideas? Renewal By Andersen Prices

Jen, I don’t have any specific ideas except to say keep getting bids until you find one that is in your price range — beyond this I really don’t have any magic bullets — you have quite a few very expensive brands on your list so perhaps there might help…

Here are my good and great window recommendations…

ClimateGuard Windows In Chicago

Good morning Dane and Tim! I really appreciate that you provide such a service. I am an example of one who does not know where to begin...

Let's start with location - Oak Brook, a suburb of Chicago, zip 60523. Implications of that is the near extremes of weather - the objective is to efficiently keep the heat out in the summer and also keep the heat in (and cold out) in the winter. Spring and autumn can also bring "horizontal" rains, in particular to the west facing side of the building.

We moved in to this house in Dec 2016, acquired from the original owner. He took good care of the house, but, we are slowing bringing everything up to an even higher standard. I think many of them were replaced over time. I believe APEX is the provider - but, I am not convinced that is the best way to go forward. Apex Windows Reviews

We have big windows, little and medium medium, sliding doors, wall-to-ceiling, etc etc. Bottom line, if someone wants this work, there's plenty with which to feed someone over time. We really need someone conscientious who can help work through what now and phase a plan over time.

I am willing to pay a bigger premium for the right quality and service. Where would you suggest that I begin my search, as I see the best result as a function of quality of product (which companies/brands?) and also the local installer (can you help here too?)

Many thanks in advance! I am researching now so that come spring, we can get at as soon as the weather breaks.

Thank you!

[Site Editor's Answer]

Lev, in and around Chicago I know there is an Okna dealer and I know he tends to push the Okna Starmark windows 7500 Series, a composite window that is the best on the market. But also pricey. I know ClimateGuard is in that area as well, but I'm not super familiar with their track record so I offer that recommendation lightly. I'll send you more recommendations -- [list redacted].

Climateguard Thermaforce Windows

Dave - we also got estimates from Climateguard - a Chicago based company for their Thermaforce series. The have a lot of the bells and whistles and wanted to get your view and feedback on what you think. They have a pretty good ratings.

I would appreciate your feedback

[Site Editor's Answer]

Jayaraj, I'm pretty impressed with the numbers I saw on their website for the double hung they sell. That's all I really looked at. I don't know enough about the company to really say much more and there doesn't seem to be lots of reviews on them. I'd spend some time checking out their online reviews. Their window series look pretty solid with the .05 AI and .30 U-factor on the site. The condensation resistance was also pretty solid.

ClimateGuard Windows Reviews

Tim I’m just wondering if you have any information or climateguard windows reviews - they are manufactured in Chicago. Thanks.

Tom, the honest answer is I don't know. I took a look at their website and was impressed with at least the amount of information they provide, including performance and structural data. It looks like their vinyl windows are relatively budget based in my opinion. They certainly aren't one of the best vinyl windows, but their mid range and premium window model could very well be a nice middle-of-the road option.

Then I looked at several industry review sites and came up with very little in terms of reviews. It is always a bit worrisome that a company has been in business since 1975 and no installers have ever made a post on the quality of these. However, there are hundreds of window companies out there, so maybe they are very much Chicago-based to account for this.

Next, I looked at their yelp reviews. Definitely some not so happy customers, but a fair bit who were as well. However, Yelp and other review sites often get disgruntled customers more than satisfied ones. I would suggest you read the yelp reviews yourself to get an overall sense of what local consumers think.

At the end of the day, I think I would be wary but not unopposed to using their windows and services, assuming my experience when they came out and the price they quoted was fair. But I also think I would have to have a friend, work-colleague, etc. vouch for the product before I pulled the trigger.

I hope this helps, sorry I couldn't be more of a help on this one!
