Window Installation Approach
First of all I wanted to say thankyou for putting together such a wonderful resource. I am in the process of figuring out the best way to replace 9 windows at my house which has stucco siding. There are two types of windows/situations and I am getting conflicting information on how to proceed based on quotes from GreenTex, Window World, Vista Siding, and Ringer windows. Any chance you could give me some guidance here?
Aluminum Frame Picture windows: two ~71"x41" single hung windows to be replaced: Windows appear to be stuccoed into the wall and probably framed to studs. Window contractors (Ringer, Window world, etc) indicate they would saw cut around the edge of the window (exterior) and "not break" the stucco.
One insists that the vinyl flange they can put on the edge will cover where they have sealed and caulked. The other is saying they would put Hardie boards. Titan Window and Siding said that this will likely fail and that the only way to do it is to do a nail fin install which includes cutting back 6" of the stucco and flashing then remudding over. Question 1: Would the saw cut method plus repair by a skilled stucco expert be enough or do I need to go with the full 6" cutback.
Original Wood Windows: Seven 32"x63" single hung windows to be replaced: windows are likley 1950s era single hung wood windows. Most window companies/contractors are confident they can cut in to the stops on the inside and leave the stucco and maybe even the exterior stops in-tact. Specifically, one says I should cut the stucco (6") and do a nail and fin. However, I am not convinced this is necessary for these windows.

Andy, this is the age old question (kinda) when it comes to stucco - it sounds like they are split on whether to cut out the old windows or take it down to the studs and do a full frame install. My issue is if they do the latter and put in the nailing flange and patch the stucco, will they color match the stucco perfectly? Stucco is a tricky wicket if done incorrectly.
I would definitely put the most stock in the companies whose online reviews and ratings are the highest. Any company can talk but consumer reviews should be an important factor here in making the decision. So, my initial questions to you are this: how long do you intend to be in this home? Does the house need to be re-painted anytime soon? By the way, we no longer open attachments because of a virus FIASCO from a couple of years back. (It was bad). Therefore, if you can summarize the price quote for me, I am more than happy to give you my honest opinion!

Ringer Windows Reviews vs Amerimax CP-3000
Greetings Tim! My wife and are getting bids for replacement windows and we've have two that we are interested in. Both companies have good reviews regarding installation and I'm wondering how close their windows are in performance. One company, R.O.I. in Waco, TX recommends the Amerimax CP-3000 series. The other company is Ringer Windows, out of Taylor and Austin, TX. Specifically, hey manufacture their own windows and have priced their Premium Elite 5400 Series. Both company's estimates are for single-hung windows.
The ROI bid is about $3000 less for the same number of windows (16) in our 1952 home. I would certainly appreciate any light you could shed sir. Thanks so much for your time.

Hey Gary, so let me say this at the outset, I have never heard of Ringer. I did google "Ringer Windows Reviews" and saw that they have 27 yelp reviews and the reviews looked legit to me (I always look at how many reviews the reviewers have done and if they have only one review I assume its bogus. Not the case here.)
Amerimax makes a very solid vinyl window that I often recommend for consumers in the western half of the country. I have to say though that if Ringer Windows is offering you their premium vinyl window at $3000 less, I'd be pretty tempted to go with them. I would ask them to compare their performance data with the Amerimax window though, especially the air infiltration and the U-factor. Therefore, the Amerimax AI is I believe in the .12 to .14 range -- the lower the AI the better (0.01 is the best you can get). I'd say if their premium window can match the numbers then you are in business!
