Painting My Vinyl Windows And Warranty
Nice site with a lot of good information. Our house was built in 1968 in N. California, previous owner did replacement windows with (in my mind) cheap vinyl windows. These are the type of windows where the old aluminum frame stayed in.
We are in the process of remodeling our backyard so are not at a point to replace all of our windows. But we plan on it. Currently I have 4 windows I want to replace. One is a large slider, kitchen window, and then two 6' windows that we want to convert to swing patio doors.
My issue is not there are not good quality vinyl windows out there, my issue is that you really can't paint them. Well, you can but will it last? Right now we have white trim but we plan to do something different in the future. I don't want to be "stuck" with a color. What is the best outside cladding in order for us to be able to change the color when we want?

Painting vinyl can void the warranty so you should definitely be aware of that. Manufacturers worry that the paint color with add heat to the windows that can be detrimental over time, especially the use of dark colors and/or windows used in hot climates. If you are insistent on painting your vinyl windows, then you need the proper primer and paint. This is job number one.
