Bottom Line: Alliance is a bit of a mixed bag due to its structure and is much less well known than Pella. I think I would rely heavily on the installation company reputation when it comes to Alliance. Their premium window series is good quality. Pella is very well known and is about on par with Alliance with it comes to their vinyl windows. With Pella, you are paying (some portion) for the name so that price point might be significantly higher than with Alliance.

Alliance Window Systems is actually a loose group of window manufacturers that have joined together to be able to buy window parts, hardware, and components at competitive prices. Pella Windows And Doors is headquartered in Pella, Iowa and has been in business since 1925. Pella is one of the most recognizable window manufacturers in the United States. In fact, Pella, Andersen and Marvin tend to be the big 3 when it comes to name and brand recognition in the replacement window market. Pella Windows Reviews
What They Sell
Alliance manufactures three main vinyl window series: the Windgate, Belmont and Alliance Hawthorne. The Windgate is their entry level offering, while the Belmont is the drop down series. The Hawthorne is the company's premium vinyl series and the one I hear about the most. I would rate the Hawthorne a 7 out of 10, which puts it as quite a goo mid range window.
Pella sells vinyl windows in the Encompass and 250 series. They also sell two vinyl impact windows in the Hurricane Shield and Defender series. The sell a fiberglass window in the Impervia series. On the wood window front, Pella sells the Lifestyle, Architect, and Reserve series. They are best known for their 250 series and Architect series I would say.
How They Market
Alliance doesn't market their windows per se. Instead, they sell to their "vendors" - local window companies who are put of the alliance. These companies then put together the windows themselves and sell them to their customer base. It's an interesting dynamic, but one I think you will head about more and more as the larger companies consolidate - putting a squeeze on the smaller manufacturers.
Pella markets in pretty traditional ways - mainly through local networks of companies found in all 50 states. Also through the big box stores like Lowes on their 250 vinyl series. And finally, by selling to contractors and developers via their wholesale channels.
Cost Comparison
I would rate the Alliance Windgate cost at 4 to 5 out of 10 for all vinyl windows. The Belmont gets a 4.5 to 5.5 out of 10, while the Hawthorne series gets a 5 to 6.5 out of 10 for all vinyl windows.
Alliance Windows Cost
Pella vinyl window series cost 5 to 7 out of 10 for all vinyl windows. Their fiberglass runs 7 to 8 out of 10. On the wood-clad front, Pella costs will run 7 to 10 out of 10 compared to other wood-clad options.
