Performax Windows And Doors

Performax Windows are mainly sold through the various Menards stores across the mid west states. The way I understand it is that these windows are sourced and made in China and then sold as more or less inexpensive replacement windows. I am going to go ahead and say that consumers could and should do better than Performax when shopping at Menards. Scroll down to read all of our Performax Windows Reviews.

Overall Rating: Performax Windows gets a 2.5 out of 5 stars based on 5 consumer reviews below.

My Take On This Company: While I never like to pan a company, I would say to keep looking for a better vinyl window than Performax (in my humble opinion). The only way I might endorse this brand is if you are house flipping. Even then there are better options that I could suggest.

What They Sell

Performax sells a single line of windows at Menards that comes in a slider, single hung, double hung, and casement. The will be available in different sizes and two options - either with a nailing flange or without. The nailing flange or fin is for new construction installation. Those are pretty much the options you can expect in terms of Performax windows.

Improve it offers the Performax54 series. However, it isn't clear to me if this vinyl window differs significantly from what they sell at Menards. Often times, the big box stres like Menards sells the base window -- and then an installation company like Improve It will get an upgraded version. However, I'm not sure how many upgrades you should really expect with the Performax54 window.

Performax Warranty Information

Menards offers 90 day returns on their Performax Windows. I wouldn't expect much more than this in terms of a Performax windows warranty on their products. However, the Performax54 series may indeed carry a better warranty, but again I wouldn't expect much.

Opinion On Menards

Any opinions on Menards windows and perhaps doors. We have a rental place that now needs better windows but I'm not keen on blowing out the budget right now. I'm wondering what my low cost options are. From your Performax reviews page, it doesn't appear you're all that keen on them. Options? Advice?

Jonah, Menards would not be high on my list, nor would Performax. If you have an installer that you trust, then I think the big box stores are an option. However, I would stick with Simonton or Reliabilt windows on that front. Additionally, I will send you my list and you can take a look at our good options and see if you can get some options there. If you are on a budget, the process might be slower but it should bear fruit in the long run.

This is my 2nd quote for a window called Performax 54. I changed my tactic from all 11 windows to the 3 that are failing to stay shut, so this quote is for 4 windows. Very expensive! Improve IT Performax 54 - this is for three windows only.

Micah, definitely pass on this bid -- Performax is about as unremarkable vinyl window as I've seen and this quote is very high for 3 windows. I am more than happy to send you my list of recommended windows.

Menard Windows Complaints

We had Performax installed a year ago (bought them from Menards) and I have to say they are pretty sucky - haha - to coin a phrase. One of the worst window brands for sure. Additionally, most of them are loose inside the tracks even when they were first installed. On chilly days, I can actually feel the cold air coming in around the crappy seals. Simply put, it just isn't a good window in my opinion. Someone said that Jeld Wen are bad quality, but they are still much better than Performax. However, just my take.

[Site Editor's Answer]

Gerry, while I don't know a ton about this brand of window, I have not heard much that is good on Performax. Generally, I think you should move on and find a better window option for your home. I think the only exception to this is if you are flipping houses -- then I think you could get away with using the brand.

South Bend Ohio Replacement Windows

Hello Dane, the information on your site has been tremendously helpful in my search for the perfect window. We live in South Bend Ohio and need to replace 10 sliders, 2 picture windows and 7 single hungs. Per your advice, we have collected a number of bids, including Marvin Windows, Home Depot, Simonton Windows, and Menards. The quotes are full installation on all of the frames so the bigs are pretty high when I compare them to lots of what I see on your website..

Home Depot quoted us the Simonton 6500 series and there quote was $24,800, but you had mentioned that their install teams can be spotty. So I'm thinking that I will throw this one out. The Simonton quote is $24,500 for the 5300 series, while the Menards quote is $15,100 for the Performax series. The Marvin cost quote was around $37,200, so that's just too high and out of our budget. I guess it comes down to Simonton from a local installer or the Menards quote, but I don't know much abt them and this was a local installer as well.

Tammy - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Tammy, I know the Menards quote is low, but the Performax windows are not good in my opinion. I'm not going to quite put them in the worst window brands out there, but they are not far off. So, I would say go with the Simonton cost quote on the 5300 series. Basically, this is good mid range window that should serve you well if combined with good to great installation.

Performax54 Series

Hi Dane, I've had two quotes -- one from Universal Window Direct on the 3 of their Unishield Plus series with the following sizes: 39 by 59, 39 by 51, 39 by39. Price quote is $3800 fully installed. Second quote is from ImproveIT whose price quote was $5575 on the Performax54. However, the window is really chunky and doesn't look particularly well made.

So my question for you is do you have recommendations for me on these two options? Or should I continue to look in other places. Thank you in advance for you Performax windows reviews and information.

John - Homeowner - from 2021

[Site Editor's Answer]

John, the better window between these two options is the UniShield Plus -- by a lot. So the fact that the price quote is lower for a better overall window means that this is the easiest question I've had all day :) The Universal Window Direct price quote is the clear winner in this head to head match up.
