Window World Issues And Complaints

Explore our Window World Complaints from consumers who have been dissatisfied with any of the following: the company, their windows, installation, customer service, pricing, and more. The nature of complaints is often due to the fact that Window World (typically) sells a low cost vinyl window and, almost by definition, this brings with it all kinds of potential for consumer complaints.

Some of these complaints are justified - for instance if the balances go out within the first ten years, or condensation forms between the glass panes in that same time period. How the company handles these hiccups, or neglects to handle them, is an important piece to this.

My Take On This: Because Window World is a franchised company, the quality of the customer service, installation and any follow up required will be a function of the specific branch in your area. So do some research as some Window World branches are quite solid, while others leave a lot to be desired.

Consumers should be wary about buying the inexpensive WW offerings, unless they are say flipping a home. While the price may look good on paper, it might not provide you with the best long term value."

A Quick Word On Franchises

Window World is a franchised business, meaning that each branch is individually owned (although some people could certainly owe multiple branches). This also means that how well, or how poorly, a WW branch is run is based on the individual and not so much on the company itself. While I don't find all WW windows to be high quality, they have been making some nice moves in the past few years in my opinion. Scroll down to read all of our Window World complaints.

Principal among these has been the move towards Simonton Windows. However, not all branches sell the same brand so it's important to know the actual brand of window you are buying. My point here is that you can't bunch all Window World location together. They must be seen as individual branches and judged accordingly.

"Some Window World branches are well run, have excellent customer service, and great online reviews. However, other branches of this franchised operation have decidedly worse business practices, customer service, and online reviews. So do your due diligence when it comes to choosing WW."

3000 Series Complaints

Hi Dane, the windows that will be replaced are 15 year old vinyl replacement windows from Window World that have been leaking from the top and down the side and have damaged the sill over several years. The seven other Window World windows installed at the same time 15 years ago are fine. So I suspect that the leaking windows were not installed properly.

Would a full tear out better ensure that the root cause of the leaking is found and addressed? Further, would a frame in frame installation work just as well if the source of the leak around the frame is found and corrected? Also, what do you think of the following two quotes?

1. Two Soft-lite Windows Barrington Double Hung series, mulled with grids and half screen: $2,315 for 2 or $1,157.75/window. Full tear out installation.
2. Two Ideal Platinum Double Hung Windows, mulled, with grids and half screen: $1,700 or $850/window. Frame in frame installation.

One Ideal Victorian 6' Sliding Glass Patio Door, $3,450 with screen.

Doug, the Ideal Platinum window option is the much better option and it's cheaper, how nice is that!

Dissatisfied Customer

Hello gentlemen. I have a window world complaint that I would like to lodge on your site. Back in 2008, we ordered 25 3000 series windows and almost from the get-go had problems with at least a few. Then a few years ago we had all sorts of problems even opening them up. These are all double hung windows. I think they’re just poorly made. The sales guy was nowhere to be seen when I called his number to try and get an answer.

I called the branch and they were no help either. They’re pretty much stonewalling me as far as I’m concerned. It’s been a very frustrating experience. I would advise anyone who is considering getting world windows to take a second look before buying these. You’re going to be needing to replace your windows within 15 years. Might as well get a better brand at the get-go, and get better lasting replacement windows. Just my experience.

Not a Fan Of Window Worlds

So interesting that I have left messages for Those Window Guys Serenity and WW asking the AI and what brand they sold and where they are made, neither will return my call with the information. WW wants $9500; Those Window Guys Serenity wants $4800 - not including 2 transoms; and the Christian guy who undercuts his competitors by $100 (Hometown Windows) wants $11,500.

I do live in a condo on the 2nd floor which would be about 3 stories above ground level so I assume there are extra charges for that. Only Window World has an itemized statement. Hometown couldn’t even give me details about the installation saying that he would have to consult with his top installer and he says he has the best installers around and he pays them top wages.

So, whom to believe??? And how to get them to respond??? Guess I’ll have to go their showroom if they have one and talk to someone there to get the answers!!! Thanks for all your input.

Replacement Window Options

Hi Dane. We have a giant window project. We bought a home with the original, single-pane wood frame windows. I have weatherstripped them and added foam to tighten them up and we had them all recaulked. However, we are considering replacing them with more energy efficient vinyl windows bc we have sooooo many windows (@40) including three giant picture windows and an entire wall of windows in our den. Several of our windows are non-standard (floor to ceiling or with transom, etc.) Lots of heating and air loss going on. We’ve gotten a ton of estimates as follows:

Window World - $31k (3000 series)

Home Depot - $35k (simonton 6500)

Window source - $38k (pro essentials S6000)

Davis - $35k (provia endure EN600)

We are waiting on estimates from lowes and 1 other vendor…. We are concerned @ going with the base WW window, but we’re unsure if going up a grade would be helpful there or not…

Any advice?

[Site Editor Answers]

Robert, if you do decide to put in replacement windows, the Provia Endure EN600 window is by far the best of the grouping. In fact, it's toward the top of my long list of quality windows. I don't know what the pro essentials S6000 series is, so I can't comment. My second pick would be the Simonton 6500 series, but I would insist that HD send you their very best installation team -- their installation can be hit or miss and that's a big component of any job. Window World would be on the bottom.

Window World Complaints

I just got a bid from Window World and the salesperson was just rude. Maybe they were having a bad day, but it was not a pleasant experience. Then at the end he more or less asks for my business. Joke.

4000 Series Complaint

I have Relief Windows coming in to quote me on 14 windows later this week. The sales guy seems to want to push the Wincore 5400 series and when I questioned the 7700 series he said it wasn’t much difference between the 2. My first thought was he must have more room to mark up the 5400 series and that could be the reason for him pushing the 5400 series. However, after doing a lot of research it seems that the 7700 series is the better option; depending on overall cost I assume. The confusing thing is even within a model of a window, there are many options to select.

So when your site references the 7700 series windows, are these based on the basic models are ones with a few upgrades. For instance, the higher end of the 7700 series is the Ultra High Performance configuration and that even shows in the U-Factor of .19 and SHGC of .18. However on the lower end of the 7700 series it has a U-Factor of .29 and SHGC of .21; not much better than the 5400 series after a few upgrades. So if I pick the 5400 series with upgrades, it could compare to the ratings of the 7700 series. My fear is that the 7700 Ultra High Performance is going to be out of my price range.

And by the way, Relief Windows has great reviews in the Baton Rouge area. Window World quoted me $4,846 for the 14 windows in the 4000 model with the SolarZone Elite package. As you know, they don’t have a great reputation on installations; however I have seen that the Baton Rouge branch seems to be better than most. Any advice is appreciated.

Jerry - Homeowner - from 2017

[Site Editor's Answer]

Jerry, the Wincore 7700 model is the better window, but you are correct that the differences in glass packages, a sill reinforcement, etc. can make up the differences between the models. I think the 5400 with some upgrades would be comparable to the 7700. So I think either option would serve you well.

Also, I have heard that the Window World in Baton Rouge is good, however, they are still selling a window that is sub par. Some consumers make the point that if the window comes with a lifetime warranty, why not go with a sub par window. The problem with this option in my opinion is you're still going to pay for the labor of pulling out the windows and replacing them, which can be roughly a third of the cost.

The other option is to get a bid from the Sunrise window dealer in New Orleans who services Baton Rouge. I'm pretty sure he'll come out and give you a bid. The Sunrise window is excellent and would be a good comparison to the Wincore 7700 model. Might be nice to have some comparisons.

Dane - Site Editor - from 2017

[Jerry's Answer]

I couldn't find the Sunrise window dealer in New Orleans; do you know their name? Only 2 options here outside of big box stores and general contractors. I called the top 5 mid range window manufacturers from your website and not one had representation here. Relief Window's rep was pushing 5400 model and said there wasn't much difference between the 5400 & 7700.

Quoted 14 windows at $9,225 for 7700 & $7,325 for same windows for 5400 with Low-E and argon. Talked him down to $7,895 for 7700. What's your thoughts on that price? Still working to get him to at least $7,500. I feel they are a little high due to all the work in this area because of flooding last year, but I am only assuming that and don't know for sure.

Thanks so much for your webpage detailing Window World Reviews from other consumers, I have learned a ton!

Jerry - Homeowner - from 2017

[Site Editor's Answer]

Jerry, you are correct that there aren't many of the brands I list as the best in the souther states. I was actually pleasantly surprised when you mentioned the Wincore brand. I don't know the name of the guy in New Orleans but I did ask my friend who used him and he said he was traveling but would look it up when he gets back (not sure of the timeline on this -- sorry).

Go to Sunrise Window's website and call their corporate office and see if they have anyone who serves your area or the closest rep and give them a call and see if they would come out (you may be able to get a pseudo-quote over the phone if you describe the project and go over all the window specs on the phone using your Wincore quote -- ballpark pricing).

In terms of what you have right now, the Wincore 7700 for 14 windows for $7900 is a very fair price, but I agree that getting him down to $7500 is a good goal -- $400 bucks is $400 bucks. I think the 7700 model is a good vinyl window and I think if you can get him close, then you've got a good window. If you are able to contact the Sunrise rep, get a bid on their Essentials model, which is their entry level.

I would think it would be lower than the Wincore 7700. Use this bid as leverage to see how low the Wincore rep will go -- my advise is to always be super nice to the rep, but let him know that it's a question of budget and that you really want to go with him if he can just help you out on the bottom line.

Wrong Window Installed

In July 2012, we ordered windows for bedroom. Upon installation we noticed the wrong window was being installed. Single prairie grid was ordered, double was installed. Contacted office and was told when we order more windows, they would correct it. Wife tried to stop installation, but was told this is what they were given and they wouldn't stop to contact office to correct it. The plan was to see how we liked it with full intention of completing entire home.

Contacted for quote, Sept. 2016 on more windows and was told by salesman he was carrying them around for 3 months and then was told they were in warehouse. Contacted main office again and after 3 try's finally got return call and was told we would have to pay $50 each for replacement sash that was what we originally ordered in the first place. Was ALSO told they tried to contact us on numerous occasions.

Why would we not return calls for something that we wanted to get corrected in the first place. Bottom line is we are being given the run around. They advertise the Window World $189 Special, but when you get the salesman in your home it is their bottom line window with no warranty, etc. They are not reputable. VERY poor way customer service. Have since discovered there are much better choices out there.

Have since decided to cut our losses and are going with a much more reputable and "local" contractor for total house install.

Window World Reviews Arizona

Any reviews from AZ on WW? Because I read a bunch of Window World complaints online recently and a handful were focused on the Phoenix based operation? However, I've also spoken with folks who have used them and loved them. So I'm confused.

Gerry - Homeowner - from 2016

[Site Editor Answers]

Gerry, each WW is operated independently, so unless a consumer mentions something specifically about a WW in your area, unfortunately I don't personally know whether the branch has a good or bad reputation for their installation. Window World sells a low end Alside and an Xact window so regardless of which WW branch you are using, the product you're buying is not one that is intended to last for the same time as a higher quality product.

The point being that you will often pay more money over time by going with a poor product than going with a quality one the first time. Anlin, Milgard, Amerimax and Simonton all make good mid range vinyl windows that are available in Arizona and with quality installation, should last quite a bit longer than Window World and cause you less issues (such as broken seals, failing lift rails) at year 5, 7, 9 etc.
