As long as the company doing the install has a good reputation for quality work, this is the best option (and the least expensive) by far! The current one are developer vinyl double hung white with standard grids. To replace we must match exactly the existing windows so nothing fancy.
Ed, that's not cheap $1500 per window, but yes companies often charge more to do higher level apartments (and some just don't want to do them). I would collect a bunch of bids in this case just to see how the cost spread comes in -- I'll bet quite a bit...

Susan, typically with bow and bays, the company takes their windows and sends them to a “bay/bow” company that inserts them into the configuration that you require — not always but this is often the process so essentially you are buying the window from the company who is then charging you their cost that they pay the “bay/bow” company.

Samuel, anytime a vinyl window is bid out at over $1K per window installed, I consider it too high :) Which is not to say that it is excessive, but I do think that you have to examine why - or at least get a number of bids to see if everyone is bidding out the windows at that price point. If every company is doing that, then it's probably a fair market price.
Hello Dane/Tim, my wife and I are looking to replace 14 windows in our house and have several estimates that I'm interested in getting an opinion on. Our measurements are qty 2 - 23x71, qty 5 - 35x70 and qty 7 - 35x58. The are the original vinyl from 2002 construction of the house and are single hung. We live in the Northern Virginia area.
Derrick, if I were moving in five years, I would go with the Window Universe Express Berkshire Elite at $8,953. It's a decent series and you aren't going to make back your investment in 5 years. If I were going to stick around in the home long term, I would pull the trigger on the Okna 500 series at $12,929. These would be my two options based on timeline. I'm not quite sure how the reviews on Window Universe Express are...

Chris, both of these bids sound high to me. If you could get the upgraded Wincore 7700 series for the $730, then that would be a decent deal. The ThompsonCreek in the $700 to $750 range would be much more in line with what I was thinking cost-wise.

The original windows are we believe Anderson but not totally sure. Anderson has a policy it no longer sells to condo owners n building of 4 floor plus. (Related topic: Renewal by Andersen Window Cost) Noise is our biggest issue and energy savings valuable but not key.
Ok, we have met with one time ThompsonCreek a company who has completed other replacement windows in the same mid rise condo groups. Are time expected at our condo could be depending on health, and noise reduction, 7 to 10 plus years. Thompson we know or believe we know offers a good product, ok limited and transferrable warrantees, for their Sound Signature window replacement installed for 11 units, double hung, vinyl, white estimate is about $1,475 per window all in. Any suggestions? Thank you.

You don't want a premium window though if your timeline is 10 years -- a good quality mid range vinyl series should suffice and provide nice noise reduction compared to your old ones...

These numbers are a bit higher than I was anticipating; however, given building materials are higher and prices are likely higher in Northern Virginia, I wanted to get your opinion on if the estimates are fair.
