Best Storm Windows

Explore our picks for the best storm windows on the market. When we say storm windows, we are referring to single pane inserts that are fitted either on the outside or the inside of an existing window. These differ quite significantly from hurricane windows, which are full replacements that are quite strong, but also very expensive. Storm windows are actually quite reasonable in price, running $20 to $40 per square foot for the windows themselves (compare to impact windows, which can run $60 to $100 per square foot for the window itself.) Indow Storm Windows

Indow storm windows are custom interior inserts that are made using a compression tubing for the frame. The tubing is fitted into the interior window frame and snugged in to create a tight seal. The glass is made from an acrylic glazing, which does has some flexibility, but is undetectable from normal glass once it is installed. The tubing can be ordered in 3 colors and the company offers seven different products, including their standard insert, acoustic or soundproof, shade, blackout, privacy, museum grade, and commercial grade insert.

These interior storm windows start at around $20 per square foot, while the museum and commercial grade windows will run $30 per square foot. This does not include installation, and prices will vary based on the local dealer from whom you buy. The company is out of Portland Oregon and should be available on much of the west coast. As to the availability in the central and eastern region of the United States, our suggestion would be to call and see if you can order and have them ship out to where you live.

Larsen offers 3 storm window products, including their Bronze, Silver & Gold series. Each series is available in a number of different models and offer varying levels of strength, durability and performance. In general, Larsen manufactures a well made aluminum storm window that can be custom sized for most window openings.

Consumers can expect to pay $20 to $35 per square foot for the storm window itself, depending on the model, upgrades and options that you opt for. The company is out of South Dakota and should be available in many of the surrounding states, as well as on the east coast where storm windows tend to be more popular as a low cost alternative to full replacement impact windows.
