Coeur D Alene Windows Reviews

Good morning, Dane, I received quotes from installers for installing 8 vinyl windows in my 1947 ranch style house in Seattle, WA. I am wondering what you think of the quotes, if you have the time to look at these.

All are for Milgard Tuscany, although I was also sent quotes for Simonton Daylight Max, Coeur D'ALene, and Lindsay 1100 series, which some installers were pushing as they said they were getting better prices from these manufacturers than from Milgard.

3 are 96" x 35" double sliders, with screens on the two sliding ends. Egress is 1/3,1/3,1/3.
1 is 96 x 48, same arrangement
2 are 48" x 35" half slider with screens
1 is 48" x 24" half slider with screens
1 is 80" x 36" double slider with screen

Tuscany, 1/8" Suncoat low E 2, 1/8" clear, argon, edgeguard foam spacer on most, one is for edgeguard max foam spacer, all say the U value is .30, but it varies with window size, etc., all are for complete removal of the window and fin, cut back siding, and the trim varies from primed cedar, to primed some other wood, to Azek, brick mold style. All screens are the regular, not the fine mesh, all are Smart touch lock, all have liner cut back. All include taping the fin, one also includes putting house wrap around the window area, and taping the fin, as the siding is going to be replaced after the windows and doors are done. One doesn't tape, but uses a paint on adhesive over the fin which they say works the best. Color of vinyl is white inside and outside.

Stansell Glass, Auburn, smaller company, installer is owner and a couple of helpers, lady who provides quotes is very organized and explains everything very well. Primed wood exterior, not brickmold, doesn't specify about caulk or screws/nails, 1 year installation warranty. - $11,569.13 No showroom. A friend had all of her windows and sliding doors replaced by them in 2021 and 2022, and was very pleased.

Windows and Glass, Sales and Service Inc, out of Milton Washington, smaller company, installer is owner and a couple of helpers, wife does quotes and is also very organized and good at getting answers to questions, primed wood exterior , either cedar or other wood, flat style only. doesn't specify about caulk or screws/nails. 5 year installation warranty - $12,081.75 No showroom. Another friend has picked them and they will be replacing her windows and doors this week.

Lake Washington Windows and Doors, bigger company with crews, one sales rep, has crews, trim is composite - Azek or other. This company seems to always have one of the higher quotes according to people I talked with who have gotten quotes for their windows. Uses " industry standard caulk and fasteners". $19,468.16. 10 year installation warranty because "if the window is going to leak, it will leak within 10 years". Has showroom.

Emerald City Energy/ Mclendon Hardware, Intermountain Windows and Doors, a bigger company of combined smaller companies, with crews. Trim is Azek in brickmold, Will also include wrapping the window with house wrap around the window space and under the trim, and taping over the fin so when siding is redone, this area will also be wrapped. stainless steel screws and OSI Quad caulking. lifetime installation warranty which is also transferable. - Tuscany - $16,078.69. Simonton Daylight Max - $18, 283.35 I checked out all of their licenses, governors, etc with DOR, L & I, and SOS with Washington State and everything seems in order there. The only unusual thing is they just moved their showroom from Tukwilla to a place a little further north, and there wasn't any notice of this to people who had quotes, or when you called them.

Procraft Windows and Doors, Mountlake Terrace - medium sized company? not sure. Has crews, but I think maybe one or two. They installed four metal framed picture windows in this house for my parents in 2003 and 1992. They have a lifetime warranty, but when the sales rep - who was the same one my folks worked with, was asked about some cracking of the drywall around and under the windows, he just kind of blew it off and wasn't interested in getting into it. Said it was due to the siding, and perhaps it is. Primed and painted cedar trim, flat only, and uses a proprietary paint on adhesive waterproofer when installing the window so no taping or other waterproofing. Proprietary caulking and fasteners. He suggested Lindsay over Milgard because Lindsay has given them an extra discount to sell more Lindsay Windows. Lindsay - $14,000.00 sort of price - the quote sheets are very confusing to read - one side says "regular price" and the other side says "discounted price" and then there are additions and subtractions for things under the subtotals. Tuscany - about $20,442.95 sort of price - same confusing quote sheet. Has showroom. Didn't bring a sample of the Lindsay 1100 series, although that is what he quoted for - he brought samples of other lines.

The company that sent the quote for Coeur D'alene then retracted the quote. It is not one of the ones listed here. After that, there was no update or further communications. A friend who used them just about the time of my quote said the install went badly, she refused to pay the balance until all was corrected, and there was quite an issue between the installer and the homeowner. So, perhaps this is why I never received any follow up.

The other brands you mentioned - provia, and the others, are not available here and most installers don't use them, know them, or want to have anything to do with them.

What are your thoughts, Dane?

[Site Editor's Answer]

Terry, that's amazing how many companies provide quotes on the Tuscany series in your area. I look for three things in a quote - the window itself, the company reviews, and the price. It sounds like these two provide the Tuscany, their prices are by far the best, and at least with the first option you have a friend who can vouch for their services. I looked up both the companies and they each have very good reviews, nearly perfect. Coin flip for me between these two -- but it sounds like either one will provide you with great service!

Coeur D' Alene Windows Reviews

Thank you for your response, Dane. My apologies for taking so long to get back. I finally found a company that says they carry Provia. (ProVia Windows Reviews) What is odd is that when I talked with them, the only vinyl they want to install is the Milgard Tuscany, even though their website shows other brands.

There doesn't seem to be any Amerimax Windows contractors in this area. Every contractor wants to quote Milgard, mostly Tuscany,

One also carries Simonton Daylight Max, but no other lines of Simonton. They also carry Coeur D' Alene window company. I visited their showroom. The Coeur D'Alene looks not as well made as either the Milgard or the Tuscany. It is supposed to be slightly cheaper than Milgard and Simonton, too. This company says they don't like Simonton because Simonton are more expensive than Milgard for the same thing. This was a good showroom to visit as they had Milgards complete line, Simonton Daylight Max, Coeur D'Alene, Andersen 100 series and some other Andersen lines, and some other higher end brands that are aluminum clad or wood. It was nice to see an actual window and be able to compare one brand to another in one place.

Haven't received any bids yet, but will send them when they come in. Most of the companies say they are very busy.

I did look at your video about fiberglass vs vinyl windows - very interesting. I can't say I am won over by fiberglass as they aren't hugely superior to vinyl.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your response!
