Hi, I live at 7300 ft in Colorado and was curious of your recommended list of window types. Currently, we have quotes from Renewal by Anderson and Apex Insignia. Anderson recommended the full frame replacement method and Apex went with the less expensive insert based installation method in their quotes.
Brian, here are my Colorado recommendations: (my advise would be to collect enough free bids to feel confident in terms of whether full frame or insert installation is the best option based on the differing opinions of the companies...) Sometimes, it's a tricky one to answer, but hopefully you will get there! I do like Apex Energy Solutions though and certainly think it is worth a bid. Lately, they have been using Champion windows, which is a step up from the Alside windows that they were using prior to this
We replaced our windows with a local company using Stanek about 7 years ago and now the coating on several of the windows is coming off. The company is now owned by Great Day Improvements and they want to charge us $100 per window to repair the problem. Does that seem like a fair price?
Marilyne, it certainly depends on whether the windows are still under warranty. Some of those exterior coatings don't carry a very long warranty. I'd call them up again and have them clarify - I can find you the number that should get you to an actual person (hopefully).
Tim, I took your advice and called up Great Day and they were nice enough to charge me $75 only to come out and replace the coatings and repair a broken seal on one other of the windows. The installers were very good, did the work, cleaned up, and were quite nice. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it all worked out and wanted to thank you for your advice. It's nice to have an actual person to help me out with this process. Is there someway that I can pay you for all of your help?!
Marilyn, no payment necessary, glad to help out. If you find yourself on reddit reading about replacement windows, I would love a shout out and link to our site. Referrals are always appreciated. Additionally, I'm happy to hear about Great Day and how they took care of their responsibility to you. Unfortunately, this is not always the case with many companies in the window and door space.
