Matt, I like both of these patio doors equally - honestly, I have never heard of a sales rep tell you to buy a competitors product. However, I’m not sure I’ve compared those two models side by side in quite some time. I guess I would take his word for it as he has little incentive to lie. Both are great though - you really can't go wrong. Personally, I would choose based on which one I liked the look of more. (Soft-Lite Windows is my second favorite brand behind Okna, so I have no issue with you taking his advice!)

The quote I've received for the Sunrise door was $2875 for the door installed. Does that sound pretty reasonable to you? I did shop a quote from Home Depot on an Anderson door and the Sunrise is almost as expensive as their quote. Thanks again for the insight!"

Jim, It doesn't necessarily surprise me that the quote from Home Depot on the Andersen is the same price as the Sunrise from a local dealer. HD gets some pretty amazing pricing that they can pass onto the consumer. I'm not a big fan of the way they pay their subcontracted installers though (the rate they often pay is so low it's no wonder they don't do a good job).
If you like the Andersen door and can order it through HD, you probably won't find a better price. I would say you just need to really vet the installer who they recommend, or go out and find your own who you trust to do the install properly and thoroughly.

Bob, we have been looking to expand into reviews on patio doors, but have not quite gotten to the stage in our site development. In answer to your question, typically the quality of a particular company's windows and doors is very close. This isn't always the case, for instance, Jeld Wen has a reputation for making excellent patio doors, while their windows are considered mid range at best. Other companies do you have solid reputation's for each, for instance, ProVia, Marvin, and Anderson.
In terms of pricing, patio doors are much more expensive than windows for good reason. They are obviously larger and compass more moving parts, and utilize larger pieces of glass. While the average mid range vinyl window with simple installation probably runs $720 per window, a mid range vinyl patio door with installation runs more like $1800.
The advice that we often give to consumers is to get your 3 to 4 bids from quality local companies. Then to see for yourself what the local price ranges for the patio door measurement size and quality that you're looking for. You will be surprised by the range of price bids that you receive. Essentially, this is the reason we suggest that you get several bids - in order to be sure that you're getting the most competitive price and best quality product possible.
