Jeld Wen vs Milgard Windows

Jeld Wen vs Milgard Windows - do these two well known brands stack up against one another? Let's take a closer look at two well known window and door manufacturers and companies them on company structure, what products they sell, how they market, and their overall window price point.

Bottom Line: Both Jeld Wen and Milgard were founded on the West Coast (Oregon and Arizona, respectively). Jeld Wen is the much bigger and much more well known nationally (Milgard is still a west half of the country operation). Both of these companies make vinyl and fiberglass windows and doors (Jeld Wen also makes wood windows and doors, but no fiberglass, while Milgard makes fiberglass, but no wood clad).

Jeld Wen Windows Reviews

Overall, I would give the nudge to Milgard in terms of it's overall reputation. However, this is only because Jeld Wen's vinyl windows are more budget-focused over Milgard (sold through many of the big box stores like Home Depot). Jeld Wen does a great job with doors though, where Milgard doesn't necessarily excel in this product niche.

Company Information

Here is how Jeld Wen vs Milgard Windows stack up in terms of company structure, history, locations and more.

Jeld Wen

Jeld Wen is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina and is a publicly traded company. They have been in the window and door industry since 1960 and began operations in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Unlike Milgard, Jeld Wen windows and doors are available in all 50 states (through Home Depot in states like Hawaii and Alaska). Today, Jeld Wen and is one of the most recognizable home improvement brands in the U.S., along with Andersen and Pella Windows (subjective yes, but I think this is correct). Generally, Jeld Wen enjoy a decent reputation in the industry I would say.

Milgard

Milgard Windows and Doors is certainly not as well-known as Jeld Wen, although they are a popular brand throughout much of the western half of the United States. The company started back in 1958 and is based out of Tacoma, Washington. The company operated 6 factories in total in the state of Washington, Arizona, and California. Milgard is now owned by MITER brands, which also owns MI windows and doors.

Jeld Wen vs Milgard Windows Lineup

Jeld Wen sells vinyl, wood clad and aluminum windows. While their vinyl windows are considered builder grade, their wood clad and aluminum windows are considered to be good quality. Their wood-clad series are treated with an auralast that allows them to carry a lifetime warranty (unique in the window business). While their wood and aluminum options are certainly not top tier, they are nonetheless decent to good quality.

Milgard sells four different vinyl window lines: their entry level Styleline, mid range Tuscany and Trinsic series, and their premium Homemaker series. The company is best known for the Tuscany and Trinsic series. (Click to explore the Milgard Trinsic vs Tuscany.) In addition to their vinyl options, the company sells the Ultra fiberglass series and the A250 aluminum window. They also offer patio doors in all of their 6 models.

How They Market

Jeld Wen sells their vinyl windows and doors in the big box stores such as Home Depot. They are targeted toward a budget minded consumer. They sell their wood clad and aluminum window series in some of the “higher end” retail locations such as Dixieline. They also sell most of their products through local companies throughout much of the contiguous states.

While Milgard does not sell in the big box stores, they do sell some of their window and door series in places like Dixieline (in certain locations). They sell the bulk of their products through local companies in most of the western half of the U.S. They also sell to larger builders and contractors - mostly their more budget windows such as the Styleline for large scale developments.

Replacement Window Options

Hi, I called Menards to see which companies they handle with regard to wood windows (wood interior/clad exterior). They said they handle Crestline windows. Can you give me your opinion of that brand? Much thanks.

Corrine - Homeowner - from 2025

[Site Editor's Answer]

Corrine, Crestline Windows is not considered a very good wood window. I would be very hesitant about buying a lower end wood clad window. They carry a 10 or 15 year warranty, compared with a lifetime warranty on a good vinyl window. From a performance point of view, they will be much less efficient than a good vinyl window. And they are more expensive.

You would be much better off getting a good vinyl window over a wood window. There are some manufacturers who sell vinyl windows with interior laminate that mimics the look of wood—some look quite good, others not so much. If you are set on wood clad, I would suggest looking at two options. One is the Jeld Wen wood window, which carries a lifetime warranty due to the treatment that the wood undergoes. The other option is the Marvin Integrity fiberglass with the wood clad interior.

[Corrine's Reply]

Thank you for your comments, Dane. Very much appreciated. You mention a vinyl window with interior laminate that mimics the look of wood. Which manufacturers should I consider? We have a higher end home and I fear the look of white vinyl in the room with 5 large windows and 6 upper smaller ones would not look good.

Also an currently getting an estimate from an installer who uses Pella wood windows but you don’t mention them as a good option. Would appreciate you input of both of the above questions!

Corrine - Homeowner - from 2025

[Site Editor's Answer]

There are not many options in Arizona, I must admit. Normally, I would say Sunrise, Soft-Lite, Okna, and Zen. I would be surprised if you could get any of these where you are though. I would get bids from Milgard and Amerimax dealers to start with. You may have to settle for an interior color in the vinyl, but ask both of them if they know any brands in Arizona that use an interior vinyl laminate.

As far as Pella windows go, I think they are way overpriced myself. They do make a very good high end wood window, but they are very expensive.

Jeld Wen vs Milgard Windows In Mammoth Lakes

I have a condo in Mammoth Lakes that I'm looking for new windows. The place is in Northern CA and the winters can get really cold, so it's really important that the ones I choose are energy efficient. I'm mainly looking at Jeld-Wen and Milgard, and I don't know which is better. I want to get replacements that will last a long time and hold up with all the wind and snow we get here. I don't really care about the replacement windows cost as long as I get quality.

Emily - Homeowner in California - from 2012

[Contractor Response]

If price isn't a concern, then I'd look at SoftLite, Gorell, and Sunrise. If you can get them where you are, they are going to be much better options than either the Jeld Wens or the Milgard, although Milgard has a decent reputation. The brands I mentioned have higher energy efficiency and they'll last longer too.
