My Take On This Company: The company gets very good reviews and installs Soft-Lite windows, so, yes I think these guys are worth a bid if you live in the greater Charlotte metro area.

Carolina Home Remodeling Prices

Hi Dane, I just got a bunch of bids for 4 double hungs and 1 fixed eyebrow that I would appreciate your input on. I should mention that last year we had all 5 upstairs windows replaced with Softlite Classic Plus with an optional almond exterior color. That said, we want to try to stay with a similar look and exterior color and the quotes are from dealers in the Charlotte NC area. Are of the dealers have good product and installation reputations, but Window Nation and Carolina Home Remodeling sales pitch were high pressure.

Provia Endure - $7089 (All Season Windows and Doors)
Simonton 6100 - $6086, 6500-$6747 (Home Depot)
Softlite Classic Plus - $5949 (Zen)
Softlite Bainbridge - $11,111 (Carolina Home Remodeling)
Vytex Potomac - $12,266 (Windows Nation)

Although our Softlite Classic Plus windows do not have the best specs, we are pleased with them so far and are leaning toward them again for this project as we like their look, quality, and pricing. The Provia Endure seems to be the best value of the bunch, but the exterior color difference would likely be noticable. The Bainbridge price seems way too high, and not much better than the Classic Plus.

The Simonton's do seem bulky. The Vytex windows seems like the best of the bunch, but I do not feel they are worth twice the price of the Classic Plus. Window Nation did not offer an alternative window to the Potomac with an exterior color that would come close. I was hoping for a Fortis offer. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks again for your help!

Michael, I think you are right on here. The Soft-lite Classic Plus might not be the best of the bunch, but it is a very good quality window from a well respected manufacturer. It matches your existing windows (brand markings) and the color system would be the same as well. I think this is the way to go myself. I do love the Endure from the value perspective, but I think I would stick with the Zen Softlite Classic Plus. It's a darn good vinyl window.

Soft-Lite Windows vs Apex

We are looking at Soft-Lite windows as they are one of the brands that you recommend. We met w/ Carolina Home Remodeling, which carries the Soft-Lite Valleybrook series (apparently the Soft-Lite Pro series with a few upgrades.) The bid here was $28.6K for 20 windows, which seems expensive to me at roughly $1400 per window. We also had Apex come out and their price was $24.3K. Would love to get your take on which is the better deal as we plan to live in this home for a long time.

Lee, my pick here would be the Soft-Lite Valleybrook series over the Apex Insignia window. I think it's the better window and worth the increase in price that actually isn't a lot if you break it down for each window. If those are the only two bids you've gotten, I would suggest probably doing two more just to see what else is out there. There are a lot of options in and arond Charlotte so maybe grab two more and then let's look at all four side-by-side and make a decision then!
