Home Depot Window Replacement Reviews

Home Depot is the biggest of the "big box" stores that sells replacement windows to homeowners and certain contractors. Different stores sell different window brands and series so summing up the quality and selection is a bit of a crap shoot. As a general rule of thumb, Home Depot sells some quality replacement windows and some others that leave a lot to be desired. Home Depot's most popular windows include the Simonton VantagePointe series, Andersen 100, Reliablt 3900 series window, and more. Scroll down to read all of our Home Depot window replacement reviews.

My Take On This Company: I do like Simonton windows and the Andersen 100 series. (Are they the best on the planet, no, but good quality generally.) Overall, I think they offer a pretty decent selection on products. My issue comes with their subcontracting out their installation. To me, this seems like a recipe for possible problems. However, if you have a good installer and the price is right, then HD is a nice option to have.

Are Home Depot Windows Any Good?

This will really depend on the specific window that you buy from the store. The premium Home Depot replacement windows are good quality -- the Simonton VantagePointe series, the Andersen 100 series, and the Reliabilt 3900 series, to name a few. Their low end options are some of the worst vinyl window brands - at least in my opinion.

Home Depot Window Installation Reviews

Here is where the rubber meets the road. Because they subcontract out their installation, and pay them per window, there is a tendency to rush the installation. Not always, there are good installation teams associated with Home Depot. However, the consistency isn't there in my opinion and this is the big issues with HD windows.

Warranty Information

Typically, HD offers a one year warranty on the labor. Beyond this, the window warranty comes from the manufacturer themselves, although you will go back to HD to initiate any warranty issues that may arise. I like this aspect of the process -- your credit card is on file with them so they know what you bought from them and when. Always take a picture of that purchase order with your phone just in case!

Viable Replacement Windows

Looking for viable replacement windows in the 59759 area code. So far, I have been to Home Depot, and Loews, and unimpressed with the service, and that is JUST the ordering for an estimate.

Also, this is a DIY project. I have replaced windows in multiple houses, so fairly well vetted. In the past, I have used Anderson 100, 200, 400 in different houses. This house is a rental. I want quality, however I do not need Anderson windows pricing information. Certainly there are some regional manufactures where one can purchase online. Thanks in advance.

Tim, Montana has never been an easy place for me to recommend windows. Here is my standard list, but I'm not sure how much help it's going to be. The whole DIY from local reps is a bit of a mixed bag. But I would say search for local companies that sell some of the brands listed below and see if they will sell direct.

However, I know back east that some people have had success with Okna windows reps - but Okna is not in Montana to the best of my knowledge. Please keep in touch as I would love to know what you find so that I can pass that along to the next resident who asks for quality brands!

HD Price Quote

This bid is from Home Depot to replace 9 windows with Wincore 5400 windows. It includes replacing window framing and new installation. Bathroom half window will have milk glass.
Warranty: 25 year and lifetime damage replacement (installation not included)
Retail: $14,247
Home depot discount 15%: $2,137
Military discount 5%: $605
Total: $11,505

[Site Editor's Answer]

Jeffrey, paying $1000 plus for the Wincore 5400, even with new construction installation, strikes me as high. And that's with a military discount. Perhaps take a look at our Wincore windows prices page to see comparable bids. Also, I would continue to collect more bids until you can confirm or deny that this is the case. I just don't think the 5400 series is worth that much money.

Home Depot Simonton Windows Reviews

Love some feedback on the price quotes I've collect thus far on my home renov project. We are in the Chicago burbs and are looking for retrofit window installation on 12 double hungs. Your site rocks, thank you so much!

Renewal By Anderson Cost: $38K
Pella Impervia Cost: $32K
Alside Mezzo: $21.5K
Lindsay Pinnacle Windows Price: $16.5K
Home Depot Simonton 6500: $13.1K

Jenna - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Jenna, the first two are simply too expensive. I'd say the Simonton 6500 is the best window of the bunch for the price. My hesitation is in the installation portion. As long as you get their best installation team, then I think you highly consider this option.

Home Depot Window Replacement Reviews

So the Home Depot quote is for the Simonton 6100 window. 4- 35" x 59" plus 1- 35"x35" Total 5 for $4720. The second quote is for the same number and size of window only; it is the Ideal 3000 series premium vinyl window. That price is $5,280. This company is Hunterdon, a local company in business around 50 years with their own installers. So, as a layperson I think this is a better window, air space is bigger and I think glass is hardened?

The HD quote may be elevated to $5,200. So if the installation tech calls for new construction rip out of the five windows. This is unknown until he comes to measure if I go with them. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. Very good of you.

Frank - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Frank, Hunterdon gets great reviews! The Ideal 3000 series is an excellent vinyl series - much better than the Simonton 6100 series. The Ideal is definitely worth the small upgrade cost! More on Ideal windows reviews.

Home Depot Impact Windows Prices

I have a Home Depot quote that we just received. I wanted to be able to choose my brand but they only install Simonton. Any advice or recommendations would be grateful. Curious what you think are the worst window brands?

HD Quote: $7259.42

1 Simonton 6100 Double Hung (Coastal)

3 Simonton 6100 Twin Double Hung (Coastal)

1 Simonton 6100 2 Panel Slider (Coastal)

[Site Editor's Answer]

Chris, I think that's solid for an impact windows cost quote. I think I would probably collect more quotes to see what other local companies are going to charge. Here is my list of recommended brands if you want to take a look. I always suggest four bids -- then we take a look at the four side-by-side and make a judgement based on price, series, and look at our Home Depot window replacement reviews!

Home Depot Window Installation Reviews

Hi Dane, I have been looking for replacements here in San Antonio, TX. I've gotten 3 bids, with the 4th one we will get on Saturday. The Renewal By Andersen prices were super high with only doing 8 of our Windows. The sliding door alone was going to be over $9000.

The Window World 4000 series price came in at $8750 for all of them. Window World has great reviews in San Antonio. The Home Depot Simonton 6100 series cost was in the $9000 range. The Home Depot Simonton 6500 windows cost was around $12000.

Lastly, we had Statewide Renovations come out and they didn't come prepared (salesman was great, but it looks like this is how this company does business) to show me windows or give me prices. I was less than happy about that. They plan on coming back out on Saturday for that part. We do have a tight budget, but would love your opinion of these and maybe lead me to some other options in our area. I see that you are a big Sunrise fan and like the ProVia windows. Thank you so much.

Russ - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Russ, I think it matters your timeline in the home. I love the idea that the Window World has such good reviews -- I'm typically not a big fan of their products though. Also, I think it's a nice option but I just don't trust it as a long term option. Simonton windows 6100 series is a more solid choice, but I think the installation from HD can be hit or miss.
