Home Depot Windows Prices And Consumer Cost Quotes

Home Depot Windows Prices

Home Depot sells lots of replacement windows to lots of consumers in all 50 states. And while their prices used to be relatively low compared with many local window dealers, I've noticed their bids have gotten significantly more expensive over the past four years. In fact, I would almost put their bids today on par with what many local window dealers charge, making them a much less attractive option in my opinion. Let's explore Home Depot windows prices.

My Take On This Company: Home Depot Windows prices are pretty much on par with what you could expect from a local dealer, who should offer higher quality installation. The bottom line for me is this: Home Depot doesn’t offer the best windows out there or the best installation. I think they are worth a bid, but I would prefer you get 4 to 5 bids from local dealers who carry high quality brands, and then select one of these over the big box stores.

Home Depot Positives

Here is what I like about Home Depot. Their windows tend to be priced very competitively. Because the company works on volume, they have really impressive buying power, which them translates to lower consumer prices. However, the issue here is that windows are almost always custom ordered based on the size. As an aside, I've often wondered why home builders don't use more uniform window sizes, which would lower the costs for consumers and allow the big box stores to stock these sizes in volume. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Nonetheless, Home Depot prices on the windows themselves tend to be quite competitive.

Home Depot Installation

Here's what I don't like about Home Depot. The company subcontracts out their installation and pays these subcontractors by the number of windows they install. This essentially incentivizes the subcontractor to install as quickly as possible, which is never a good recipe for a quality installation. (Labor cost to install windows.) Installation is 50% of the success of any project, so for me, this is a real liability.

Home Depot Pricing

Alright, so here is a breakdown of what Home Depot carries and what you can expect in terms of Home Depot windows prices on a 36 inch by 48 inch window with insert installation. The Andersen 400 Series might be $1500 installed. The Andersen 100 Series might be $850 installed. Additionally, yhe Simonton VantagePointe might be $850 installed, while the Ply Gem Classic Series might be $800. Finally, the Tafco classic might be $650, while the American Craftsman 70 series might be $500 installed.

For new construction installation, you would want to add $250 to each of these per window costs. Window capping might add $100 to each window, while custom frame colors could add an additional 30% to the per window cost. Finally, custom finish work could add $150 per window and grids might add $35 per window.

Home Depot Price Quote

Home Depot quotes us $11,500 after all their discounts for 9 replacement windows using the Wincore 5400 series. We have old wood frames that have to come out so that seems to be some additional work right there. Although, it includes a 25 year warranty on the windows and a lifetime damage replacement.

Home Depot Windows Prices

Hey there Dane, I have been trying to get as many bids as I can per your advice. So, I started out with Home Depot getting a bid on the Vantage point window, and it came out to $15,000 for 19 windows total. It seemed to me to be pretty high, considering that Home Depot is supposed to be an affordable option. I guess I was wrong.

So after that, I found two local companies through filling out your form. Both of them got good reviews and one sold an Amerimax craftsman series. Their bid was $14,300, I rounded to the nearest hundred. Lastly, the final bid was on sunrise but they didn’t specify which series it was. The bid came out to $17,800. Curious what you think I should do.

Danny, I would say you’re correct in that HD prices have gotten pretty high over the past few years. They used to be quite reasonable, but I don’t feel like they are that way any more. I would say this about your bids, if you plan to be in the home 12 years or less, I would go with the cheaper of the three, which is the Amerimax Craftsman Portrait. Quite a good window, and I think that price is very fair.

If you intend to be in the home long-term, then I would consider strongly going with the Sunrise option. The Sunrise standard or classic window is a great option in that bid is somewhat high, but not super high based on the prices I’ve been seen lately. I think this gives you two options and I think you forget about the Home Depot quote.

Clear Value Windows

I'm at your website. Please send the list, I'm looking at 8 -5'x 4'' vinyl slider replacements. HD quoted $7,600 for their "clear value" installed in existing aluminum frames, (in Ca,) about $950.00 each ", over priced? Your opinion please. Lastly, thank you for your assistance.

Bob, I'd say that's overpriced for sure. Truthfully, Home Depot is not cheap these days -- I think you can get a better window for that price.

Home Depot Windows Prices

Howdy Dane, we finally have gotten to a point in our major home remodel to think about window bids. I went down the list of widow manufactures that you sent and found that our geographical location offered us very limited options. We've installed Anlin Windows in our last home and were generally very happy with them but the closest dealer in the Dallas area (94 miles from our home) wouldn't touch us, so we were able to secure bids from the 2 big box stores and a nt window dealer.

Here's what we got for replacing 13 circa 1975 single pane aluminium windows (with separate storm windows) with vinyl duel pane replacements in our brick clad home. The only rep that didn't have a physical sample of the product was NT to our dismay. NT Presidential windows $12,710. Home Depot Simonton 6500 series $13,640.04. Lowe's Pella 150 Series $10,752.65

Any Thoughts are appreciated.

[Site Editor's Answer]

David, for me the best option is the NT Presidential. I like the window myself. It's the best of the bunch. although the Simonton 6500 window is just behind it. I think it makes more sense to go with the local dealer over the big box stores myself as they sub out the installation. I would prefer to know exactly who I need to go to if something should go wrong in the future. All of this is premised on the idea that the NT dealer has good online reviews / track record.

Home Depot Windows Prices

Hi Dane, I live in Plano, TX and am looking for a suggestion to replace about 25 windows in my house built in 1997. Here are the estimates I have received so far. Could you please let me know if any of them look good and whether I should consider a few more based on your experience?

The Window Source $20,820.08 NT 3000 Single Hung Lifetime Warranty/3 year labor
Town & Country $17,770.00 Burris TECTVIEW AC Single Hung Lifetime Warranty/5 year labor
Home Depot Windows Prices: $22,378.76 Simonton Lifetime Warranty
Lowes $31,025.07 Reliabilt 3100 Series Lifetime Warranty
Best Buy $17,300.00 MI Single Hung Windows Lifetime Warranty

Vinod - Homeowner - from 2023

[Site Editor's Answer]

Vinod, number one on my list of recommendations would be the following. The Window Source $20,820.08 NT 3000 series. My second would be the Burris TECTVIEW AC Single Hung $17,770. I like the NT brand over the Burris -- both of these companies get great reviews. I'd toss the rest of my bids personally and stick with these two --
