Shelter Windows Reviews

I am so very confused....I have Shelter windows which the wood on the outside has deteriorated. I need to replace the windows. About 7 years ago I replaced 3 windows with Andersen windows. 8 now have many contractors wanting to sell me Simonton, Ply Gem etc. I am confused. Then when it comes to installation I am getting prices all over the place! Can you provide some guidelines for installation costs? Thanks, Jan

Jan, I agree that the replacement window process is confusing and it doesn't surprise me that you are getting prices all over the board. In terms of installation costs, they are going to have a huge range as well, depending on what needs to be done to your windows. However, the installation portion of the project should be roughly the same from company to company.

In order to figure out what the fair market price of installation, ask for each bid to be broken down into window cost and installation cost. This will show you what each contractor is charging for the install. The more bids you get, the better idea you will have as to the legit cost of installation.

In terms of window prices, Ply Gem and Simonton should be roughly equal, they are both considered a mid range vinyl window, although each company makes a number of different window models and these will obviously differ in price.

I would suggest going with one of their top end windows if you are going to go with one of these manufacturers. I can also make window recommendations, however, I would need to know what city and state you live in.
