Hi Dane, I am researching a window replacement project outside of Oklahoma City with energy savings a major driver. I have competing bids from Gentek (GT-Signature Series) and TW&D (TW-500 Series). I am leaning toward TW due to thicker glass, aluminum core covered in polyurethane (greater stability) and many solid references, "Oklahoma Proven". Price is not the major driver but one GT bid was 33% lower, another was 18% higher than TW.
Carter, I’m not totally convinced that thermally broken aluminum windows are the call in Oklahoma — I think I’d shoot for a high quality vinyl window myself. I just think that those winters would be tough with aluminum. Having said that, Thermal Windows are a quality outfit.
Gentlemen, we've received multiple quotes from Marvin, Provia, and Thermal Park Avenue series. We are replacing 20 year old vinyls totaling 21 "holes" and have narrowed our choices to the Provia Endure and Thermal Park Avenue (double pane) 9500 series. The salesperson indicated the 9500 series is usually triple pane, but offered the double pane (which we have not seen) at a lower price.
Michael, the good news is that both of these options are good. The Park Avenue has a .05 AI and the Endure has a .02 AI in the double hung. The Endure is the better window by about the dollar difference I would expect to see in your bid prices.
Dane, I own a manufactured home that was built in 2006 (also own the land) and I need to replace 11 windows in the home. I got a quote for Window World 4000 series double hung for 6,100 to replace the windows with their solar package low E glass with argon gas and grids, this also includes removing the siding to remove the window which is attached with a nailing flange (vinyl windows), most other companies just want to cut the old vinyl window out and install a replacement window. I prefer to have the window removed instead of cutting it out as I am afraid of leaks.
Jack, the Window World 4000 series is not a good window. The TW&D 9000 series is a pretty darn solid window. It's definitely worth the extra $1000 over the WW4000.
I live in Oklahoma City they are manufactured in Tulsa with a store in Oklahoma City. They have a seriesI really like and can afford. Also they have their own installers. Problem is the window is a really heavy aluminum
Rita, I don't know a ton about TW&D in Oklahoma City. I checked their online reviews and they seem quite positive. I would ask them to give you a quote on their vinyl windows and try and drill down on how they compare to their aluminum frame options.
Hi Tim, we're renovating our Kitchen and since the 3 openings in the Kitchen are 20+ years old, our Contractor recommends replacing them. The quote for replacing one double hung with a double hung and replacing 2 double hung with 2 side by side Casements is $1400. These would be base level (no upgrades) vinyl Thermal windowsThermal 7000 series. The 2 double hung that will be casement each measure approx 28x38 and the double hung being replaced with a double hung is approx 31x48.
Tom, I don't often hear much about this brand, but I did check out the window. It offers some nice features and good performance, with a U-factor of .28 and an air infiltration of .04. The AI number is good and it looks like the window offers a constant force balance, a sloped sill, and a foam filled frame. In general, it sounds like a solid vinyl window. I can't vouch for the company, but the numbers (usually) don't lie.
I'm in need of vinyl replacement double hungs & called Thermal Window & Door company (the installers) in broomall, PA. I've use them bf (last July) for a larger patio door & think they're terrific!
Bobbi, Ideal has some mixed reviews. I've seen some very nice reviews on them and some that were, let's just say, less than ideal. If I lived in Pennsylvania, I would look at a few brands, but at the top my list would be Okna. They are great and carry two to three vinyl models (depending on the rep), each of which is excellent. Soft-Lite should have a rep in your area (if not, I'd look at Zen, which is a franchise of Soft-Lite. Soft-Lite makes excellent series as well.
