Thermal Windows Reviews vs. Gentek

Hi Dane, I am researching a window replacement project outside of Oklahoma City with energy savings a major driver. I have competing bids from Gentek (GT-Signature Series) and TW&D (TW-500 Series). I am leaning toward TW due to thicker glass, aluminum core covered in polyurethane (greater stability) and many solid references, "Oklahoma Proven". Price is not the major driver but one GT bid was 33% lower, another was 18% higher than TW.

Big difference between TW&D, Gentek, and several of your recommendations; also wondering about Renewal By Andersen prices.

Glass spacing. Gentek 5/8', TW&D 7/8', your recommendations (Polaris, Vytek thus far) 1' spacing.

Both Polaris and Vytek detail more significant sash and frame thermal insulation.

The major focus on evaluation will be on installer quality. Thus far the front runner is a local installer with 30 years expereince with Gentek, vouches wholehartedly for the product, $3k for four windows, two hung 70 1/2h x 34 1/2w and two sliders 42 1/2h x 58 1/2w.

I think you are doing a wonderful job of educating consumers!

Btw, Polaris claims to be a top brand.

[Site Editor's Answer]

Carter, I’m not totally convinced that thermally broken aluminum windows are the call in Oklahoma — I think I’d shoot for a high quality vinyl window myself. I just think that those winters would be tough with aluminum. Having said that, Thermal Windows are a quality outfit.

The Gentek is a good but not great vinyl window.

The ProVia Aspect is a good window. The NT Presidential is a solid performer as well — either of these will serve you well given a quality install. Check here for Renewal By Andersen prices.

Thermal Windows Reviews On The Park Avenue

Gentlemen, we've received multiple quotes from Marvin, Provia, and Thermal Park Avenue series. We are replacing 20 year old vinyls totaling 21 "holes" and have narrowed our choices to the Provia Endure and Thermal Park Avenue (double pane) 9500 series. The salesperson indicated the 9500 series is usually triple pane, but offered the double pane (which we have not seen) at a lower price.

Here are the quotes:

Marvin Infinity Windows: $19,500

Provia Endure Windows is $15,800

TW&D Park Avenue is $12,850

I have not been able to find any information online about Park Avenue double pane series to actually see the product.

Your thoughts on these two would be greatly appreciated.

Michael - Homeowner - from 2019

[Site Editor's Answer]

Michael, the good news is that both of these options are good. The Park Avenue has a .05 AI and the Endure has a .02 AI in the double hung. The Endure is the better window by about the dollar difference I would expect to see in your bid prices.

If this was a home I was going to spend my life in, I would go with the ProVia Endure. If this was a house I was going to live in for 7 years or less, I’d go with the Park Avenue.

Of course, the installation company plays a big part in all of this so that would be a big factor for me as well.

Thermal Windows and Doors 9000 Series

Dane, I own a manufactured home that was built in 2006 (also own the land) and I need to replace 11 windows in the home. I got a quote for Window World 4000 series double hung for 6,100 to replace the windows with their solar package low E glass with argon gas and grids, this also includes removing the siding to remove the window which is attached with a nailing flange (vinyl windows), most other companies just want to cut the old vinyl window out and install a replacement window. I prefer to have the window removed instead of cutting it out as I am afraid of leaks.

I also got an estimate from a contractor doing business as Window Depot out of Federalsburg Maryland which gets there window series from a company called TW&D. I got an estimate to have their 9000 series triple pane window installed, the cost for each window is 650 so for the 11 windows it is 7150. to have installed includes removing the siding and reinstalling the siding (siding manufacture is Crane). Window Depot Reviews

Have you are heard of The thermal windows and doors company, and what is your opinion.

Jack, the Window World 4000 series is not a good window. The TW&D 9000 series is a pretty darn solid window. It's definitely worth the extra $1000 over the WW4000.

I don't know a ton about TW&D, but they seem to make a good product and they get good online reviews from what I can tell. Assuming that the installation team has good solid online reviews, this is absolutely the choice I would make.

Thermal Windows Reviews In Tulsa Oklahoma

I live in Oklahoma City they are manufactured in Tulsa with a store in Oklahoma City. They have a seriesI really like and can afford. Also they have their own installers. Problem is the window is a really heavy aluminum

I can’t find anything regarding TW&D mfg’d in OK on your site. Can you help me please.

Rita - Homeowner - from 2018

[Site Editor's Response]

Rita, I don't know a ton about TW&D in Oklahoma City. I checked their online reviews and they seem quite positive. I would ask them to give you a quote on their vinyl windows and try and drill down on how they compare to their aluminum frame options.

Aluminum frames are very strong, but they are usually not very energy efficient. They are good for hot climates. Best Aluminum Windows

Vinyl is also strong, but not as strong as aluminum, but they are much more energy efficient.

Thermal Windows 7000 Series

Hi Tim, we're renovating our Kitchen and since the 3 openings in the Kitchen are 20+ years old, our Contractor recommends replacing them. The quote for replacing one double hung with a double hung and replacing 2 double hung with 2 side by side Casements is $1400. These would be base level (no upgrades) vinyl Thermal windowsThermal 7000 series. The 2 double hung that will be casement each measure approx 28x38 and the double hung being replaced with a double hung is approx 31x48.

We'd appreciate your opinion on the Brand, Line, and Price. Also would any upgrades be recommended?

We live in Central NJ and plan on living here for at least 10 years.

Thanks for your time!

Tom - Homeowner - from 2016

[Site Editor's Answer]

Tom, I don't often hear much about this brand, but I did check out the window. It offers some nice features and good performance, with a U-factor of .28 and an air infiltration of .04. The AI number is good and it looks like the window offers a constant force balance, a sloped sill, and a foam filled frame. In general, it sounds like a solid vinyl window. I can't vouch for the company, but the numbers (usually) don't lie.

In terms of price, you are getting a good deal on the face of it - less than $500 per window is tough to beat. In terms of upgrades, the only upgrade that springs to mind is if they offer an optional reinforced meeting rail, which can provide more strength and stability to the window, which will help with the longevity and often prevents having to replace certain parts in year 10, 15, 20 etc.

Thermal Window & Door Vinyl Windows

I'm in need of vinyl replacement double hungs & called Thermal Window & Door company (the installers) in broomall, PA. I've use them bf (last July) for a larger patio door & think they're terrific!

My salesman came out yesterday & he sells the Majestic Signature series for $450 per window. They are made by Ideal Window Co. In Bayonne, NJ. After reading ur reviews & one other review, I am afraid to buy these. I do not want to get "budget" Windows on my home that will last only 5 years. Can you go into further detail about Ideal & suggest a good vinyl double hung window to purchase other than Ideal if they in fact a budget window that are good for rental properties. Ideal Windows Reviews

Thank you.

Bobbi - Homeowner - from 2016

[Site Editor's Response]

Bobbi, Ideal has some mixed reviews. I've seen some very nice reviews on them and some that were, let's just say, less than ideal. If I lived in Pennsylvania, I would look at a few brands, but at the top my list would be Okna. They are great and carry two to three vinyl models (depending on the rep), each of which is excellent. Soft-Lite should have a rep in your area (if not, I'd look at Zen, which is a franchise of Soft-Lite. Soft-Lite makes excellent series as well.

Get a couple bids from the local companies that sell these vinyl windows and see how they compare to the Ideal Majestic Signature. I would imagine they wouldn't be too much more and you could rest easy that you are gettting some of the best vinyl windows on the market.
