The Signature Elite is the company's mid range vinyl window and the one they sell the most of by a huge margin. The window is a solid vinyl offering, but definitely not considered amongst the best vinyl windows on the market. I would give the Gentek Signature Elite a 4.2 out of 5 stars rating.

I purchased 13 windows and one Provia Door w/storm door from Window Universe. From what I gathered comparing prices, it seems they gave me a decent price on the products. There is a big BUT here. They used an installation team from Alside and it was a nightmare. The details are too numerous to write here but I will tell you that many of the windows have bowed sills and the door was hung so poorly that we couldn't engage the bolt lock and we struggled to open and close the door. This became apparent soon after the installation and grew worse with time.
Twice they sent a team back to correct the flaws. I requested a different 2nd team because the original team manager did next to nothing. To the point, the install was done on February 3, 2024 and is still not right. I had an outside company inspect the job for me and they wrote a report of their findings. Window Universe plans on sending back the 2nd team to "finish the job" but honestly, they are not going to be able to undue overblown foam insulation.
As a side note, they said they were selling me the Gentek Signature Elite but the windows didn't have the usual Gentek labels. The labels were plain white with black ink and I noticed they said, "Use Gentek labeling" on them. They also said that the Gentek SE and the Alside Mezzo were basically the same window on the outside but with different balances. I was suspicious that they just gave me the Alside windows at Gentek pricing.

Karen, I'm not sure I have any wise words for you except to continue to insist that they do the job properly, otherwise you will have to pay for all of the necessary fixes yourself. The Signature elite and Alside Mezzo are basically the same window - still they should have been transparent about what they were selling. Please keep me in the loop as to whether you get satisfaction from the company or not.

Karen, if this were my project, I would make sure that I was able to check the online reviews on the installer - the specific company or person doing the work. This is 50% of the job so this is what I would hone in on. Also, I have no idea if they subcontract out the work or they use an actual company that it's even possible to check online reviews/ratings. Thx so much, the reviews were wildy mixed from not happy to very happy. I assume it depends which installation team is doing the work. Alside and Gentek are now sister companies and have wide reach in CA and US. Also, I asked the question after the fact and the job is done. However, I do have some concerns that I'll have to address with the company who sold me the windows. I appreciate your response. Take care.

Are Gentek Windows Any Good

Eric, I definitely think this is a keeper bid. The Window Universe branch seems to get solid reviews so I really like that. I think you still need a couple more bids, but I think this is a solid option unless this is a "forever" home and then I think you ought to consider stepping up to the next level of replacement window.

Hi Dane, we have begun to receive quotes- here are the 1st two. I have 3 other Milgard quotes coming. This seems very high. I have asked this vendor to break out the labor costs as well as the upgrades. It appears that vendors are no longer selling Amerimax here. This is for 9 windows and 1 sliding patio door.
Milgard Trinsic Window: $15,502 or the Gentek Signature Elite: $10,776. Thank you.

Gentek vs Sunrise
Thank you Dane for taking your time in reviewing the bids. The only caveat with collecting more bids is the dilemma in selection. :) Both the window companies have good reviews. Gentek installation would be by the manufacturer(Alside) but the buying process is through the window company. Sunrise installation would be by the window company(dealer) employees.
You have mentioned both are equal bids. Would you consider Sunrise as top tier vinyl window compared to Gentek Signature Elite? Is the latter considered mid-range window? or both equal? It'll help me decide whether I should go for Sunrise or Gentek. Also as per the quote I received, the price difference between Sunrise Vanguard and Sunrise Restoration is $1000-1200. Should I go with Sunrise Vanguard if both products are close enough?
I learnt about Sunrise only from your Website. Since it's manufactured in Michigan, I'm partial :). Thanks.

Sarah, the Sunrise is the superior window to Gentek. I would go with the Vanguard and save the $1000 myself. The Sunrise is a top tier series, the Gentek is second tier.

Cheryl, unfortunately only the contractor who ordered the window would have the per window price that Gentek charged them -- there is no one set Gentek windows price list and it would depend on the glass package, upgrade options etc. I would simply take the total cost minus the labor and divide by 11 to get the per window cost of the windows in general. Bruno, my advise is to definitely collect those three bids in addition to what you have so far. My frontrunner for what you have so by far is the Okna 500, which is such a better window over the ProVia Aspect series. The Okna is worth the $2K more if you are planning to stay in your home long term. If your timeline is say 8 years or less, then the Gentek makes more sense in my opinion.

Double Hung Price Quote
Good afternoon Dane, thank you for providing the attached information. Also, I was able to use your link and have located what I believe to be a great installer. They have provided some quotes (albeit, some jumbled quotes based on a today, 30 day, 1 year structure, blah, blah, blah….). I’m sure you know the drill on that! The Sales Rep seems to be pushing the Gentek Signature Elite. Since I know they deal with other manufacturer’s, I asked for a quote on the Wincore 7700, the Vinylmax Edison, and an Earthwise window series.
9 Double Hung/Replacing a Garden Window with a Slider (10 windows total)
Gentek Signature Elite: $14,588 (I am not sure if this is with or without foam installation, but I think it would be an additional $1,000 if I added it.
Vinylmax Edison Window: $12,898
Earthwise: $14,510
Wincore 7700 Series: $10,400 (I think this is what he said)
2 other installers quoted (each only deal with 1 brand of windows):
KHPP (he never referred to it this way, but I think its the Huntington): $23,496

Which do you prefer? Which window would give me the best value? I am staying in the home for the foreseeable future, but it is an older townhome so don’t think I will benefit much from extreme top of the line windows. Do I really need foam installation? Is the Gentek Signature Elite the same as the Revere Berkshire Elite.

Berlinda, thanks for using the link. Now let's get down to brass tacks. My top pick based on quality and price is without a doubt the Sunrise Vanguard at the 30 day price of $15,350. This is the best long term value in my opinion. If I were staying in the home long term this is what I would do --
If I were staying in the home less than say 10 years, I would go with the Wincore 7700 series at $10,400 -- this is a good price for a solid mid range vinyl window. Assuming good installation, this is a solid option -- my second pick here is the Vinylmax Edison series for $13K. Check out Vinylmax windows cost here.
Foam insulation is a nice feature, but not all that necessary. The Gentek Signature Elite and Revere Berkshire Elite are more or less the same window. Quite good, but nowhere near the quality of the Sunrise Vanguard in my opinion.

Gentek Signature Elite vs. Simonton 5050
Dane, I’d like your opinion on a couple quotes I’ve received for replacement windows. I have 17 windows of which 14 are double hung, 2 awnings, and one big picture. The quotes are for the Signature Elite energy saver windows with foam filled frames $14,500 or for the sustainaview super spacer option $15,500. The other is for Simonton Assure series for all double hung and 5500 reflections for picture and awnings $11,600.
If I upgrade the double hung to 5500 the price goes to $13,600 and if I get super spacers it’s $14,400. Prices include colonial grids. Gentek is windows universe with pro install. Simonton is local longtime installer with good reputation. What’s my better option? Should I get more estimates for different windows? Zanesville Ohio. Thank you.

Alex, I would say the Signature Elite and the Simonton 5500 series with the super spacer are probably equal in terms of quality (and price too as these bids are nearly identical). I probably like the Simonton brands better than Gentek. My issue is that I googled "Windows Universe Janesville Ohio reviews" and the company gets amazing reviews so that points me over there. I think it's a coin flip -- decent price for the quality of window and a real solid installation company.
Because you're in Ohio where Soft-Lite, Okna, and Sunrise are all available, I might consider a couple more bids just to suss out how those price would compare. More on Simonton window prices.

How do Gentek compare with Strassburger Windows? I'm in Canada and Strassburgers are very high end options. The reason we may have to go with them is that there are huge delays on Strassburger and we wouldn't have them until February and our reno should be done mid-December.

Todd, I generally think that thry make a good mid range vinyl window. Solid. I have never heard of Strassburger. I googled "Strassburger reviews" and was not very impressed by the google or houzz reviews -- if this were my project, poor online reviews would be a big red flag.

Hi Dane, I received the following quote today for my home for a Signature Elite High Performance Vinyl Windows (DP 50) and installation as follows:
12 Double Hung (31x 53) and 2 double Hung (19x53)-my measurement: $6,566

grids in windows: $944
Replace three rotted exterior sills for the bay window: $585
16 custom aluminum wraps: $2,064
inside/outside stops: $960
extension jams: $1,599
Total Project Cost: $13,990
If we went with this company, we would likely opt out of the grids bringing the price to $13,046. I am having a different company come by tomorrow for a quote as well. Interestingly, the sales rep did not measure the windows except for the fixed frame pictures. Any feedback on this quote would be appreciated. Thanks.

Tim, I'm replacing 30 "openings" in my house and was quoted $450 installed each for the Signature Elite. Is there a better choice for this price point? I am in the Southern Climate zone. Bobby, $450 for a Gentek Signature Elite windows is a decent price for that particular model. There are quite a few good options in your home town to also check out if you want to do some comparison shopping.

Double Slider Issue
Gentek shows a double slider in white vinyl window with options "regular" and also "tilt and turn". I assume that the "regular" does not tilt in for cleaning purposes OR is there any thing else different to compare the 2 units??? Also, I am trying to decide which style of units to purchase. Jennifer, I'm not a Gentek expert. I couldn't find their 80 series on their website, but I did take a look at the brochure. It looks like a pretty middle of the road vinyl option, which isn't a bad thing at all (as long as you have solid installers). $435 per window is a nice fair price for a mid range vinyl window and normal installation. I hope that helps, I wish I knew more about their full line of windows. All The Best.

Wayne, doing conversions yourself can be tricky. If your frames and sills are in good shape, then yes you should/could consider it. I would definitely get some professional opinions before you make that leap. The Gentek Elite 3000 is nice middle of the road vinyl window. There is a big difference between a vinyl vs wood windows. I would make this decision first before you proceed.

The Sequoia Select is Gentek's top-of-the-line vinyl window series. Generally, quite a good option, although I don''t hear about this window series all that often. I would give the Gentek Sequoia Select a 4.4 out of 5 stars rating.

Gentek Windows vs Okna
We had researched windows and decided on the Okna 500DX only to find out there are no dealers in our area to install them. We live in the Midwest KC area. In our search we found a company that carries a different window called Gentek. The specific Model is the Sequoia Select BarrierXP TG2. This window has a U-factor 0.23 and SHGC 0.25. This is a triple glass with two surfaces of of low-e glass and two air spaces of argon. Of course, the company owner believes this is the best window on the market.
However, we cannot find a lot of current reviews on this window. The total is $750 per window cost installed with colonial grids. We have 11 windows total 8 double hung, 1 large picture window and 2 casements. Also, this price also includes wood rot repair on several of them. Before committing have you had any experience or heard any current Gentek windows reviews?

Rachel, you are correct that there is precious little information on Gentek replacement series, possibly because they are a Canadian based company. Or because they are a building company that sells most of their products to big builders and not so much through smaller distributors. Whatever the case, I have heard good things about the Gentek Sequoia Select window. However, paying $750 per window for a vinyl window is at the upper end of the cost spectrum. Explore Okna 500DX window cost.
If it were me, I would keep looking for a couple of reasons. One, you want to get a few bids to see what's out there and what sort of price range you're looking at. Two, it's nice to see, touch and feel different windows to know how sturdy they feel and how well they open, which hardware you like the best etc. And to see if their is a particular installer who has good reviews that may be the best for your project. Finally, you can use the bids (particularly the lower priced ones) to negotiate the best window price possible on the Gentek if you want to go that route.
I would look at our page on the best replacement windows and see if there is anything here that is available in your hometown.

Gentek Complaints
The company manufactures vinyl windows that are builder grade as far as I'm concerned. I say this because they sell most of their products through supply company storefronts to local installers and contractors. Revere window prices from several years ago.
