Garden Window Costs And Specs

We have a 40 year old aluminum garden window above the sink in our galley kitchen that we desperately need to replace. We do understand the issues associated with garden windows, but this is our preference. The rough opening is only 36” x 36 “. Our current window’s projection is 12 inches deep, which we appreciate due to its low profile and accessibility to the shelves. Garden windows I have researched are in the range of 17-18 inch projections which are deal breakers due to outside appearance and an 18 inch soffit on the roof.

Do you know of any companies that make a decent garden window where the projection is customizable at a cost that won’t break the bank? The only one we have found is a company that contracts with Alside to make their windows for them and there are a lot of scary reviews about poor window quality and terrible customer service.

We don’t live in a large urban area, we’re in Montana, so that affects our options unless we have a decent online option which we would consider. Thank you in advance.

Emily, I don't know specific configurations off hand for Garden Windows from different companies that might be in your area. My advise is to take a look at my list of windows and start calling up window companies that are local and ask for their garden window specs. If they don't sell what you are looking for, ask them if they know of companies who might make a custom garden window and ship it to you -- then you hire a window installer come in and do the rest...it might take some digging, but I think this is the best course of action.

Hi Dane, tThank you so much for responding with so much information about garden windows. In the past couple years I’ve contacted many window manufacturers I’ve found online, but you list quite a few I have never heard of. Unfortunately I’ve not found one where the projection was customizable except Dabella’s window made for them by Alside. I’ll research those on your list I haven’t contacted previously and see what they say. In the past I’ve found many companies do not have dealers in our area and/or do not sell online for the homeowner to install.

My husband has installed all our high end clad windows in our home and has done extensive remodeling so he is very capable and expects a good quality product. I’m beginning to think we will end up putting in a conventional window, but no one can say we haven’t tried. Thanks again for your help.

Garden Window Recommendations

Which brand Garden Window would you recommend? I am looking to replace an old Silver Line window that has failed. There isn't a lot written online about garden windows. I have seen recommendations for Simonton and Milgard. Milgard is not available in my area. I live in Maryland. What are your suggestions?

Scott, you are correct that garden windows don't get lots of publicity, mainly because it's a pretty specialized window style.Milgard does make a Garden window, it is called the Montecito Series and is quite nice. Simonton also offers a garden window in a few of their collections, although I can't say off the top of my head which ones those are. One recommendation I would make is Vytex, the company is located in your home state and they make vinyl garden windows that are affordable and well made. Atrium also makes garden windows and they may be available in your home state under the Atrium brand or the Reliabilt window brand (same window, different brand name).
