Impact Window Costs

Impact windows, also known as hurricane windows, are a popular choice for homeowners living in areas that are prone to severe weather conditions. These units are designed to withstand high winds, flying debris, and other elements that can cause damage or destruction to traditional residential windows. While hurricane windows cost quite a bit more than standard replacements, the added protection they provide is well worth the investment for many homeowners in hurricane prone regions.

Impact windows cost can vary depending on the size of the window, the type of frame, and the level of impact resistance required. On average, they will run between $1000 and $2400 per window, with installation costs ranging from $150 to $500 per window. While this may seem expensive, the cost of replacing traditional windows after a hurricane or severe storm can be much higher.

While the cost of impact windows may be high, the added protection they provide is often well worth the investment. In areas prone to severe weather conditions, these can provide peace of mind and protect against costly damage and repairs. When shopping for impact units, be sure to consider the level of impact resistance required, the frame material, and the reputation of the manufacturer, as well as the installer.

Oceanview Series vs Stormbreaker Plus

Currently, my husband and I are on the hunt for quality hurricane impact windows and thankfully I stumbled onto your website. So, we need 3 windows that are 52 inches by 62 inches and we live in Florida. Now, all three companies have explained that impact windows are not mandatory, but I want them for my own piece of mind. Here is what we have thus fat. The Viwinco Oceanview series for $8.1K, the Simonton Stormbreaker for $6.1K, and the ArmorVue impact window for $8.4K. So, given these window price quotes, what is your take on our best option?

Website Editor's Answer

Sarah, I would say that the best value of the three would be the Stormbreaker Plus option. Then the Viwinco windows, and then the ArmorVue. Therefore, if the Simonton window company has good to excellent reviews, then that's what I would do. If not, I would move to the next option, which is the Viwinco Oceanview.

8800 Impact Windows Cost

Hello Dane, Wondering what i'm looking at for eight standard size windows and one smaller bathroom window, so nine total. We need the impact rated as well. What should this cost for materials and labor in todays market. Thank you for your time.

[Site Editor's Answer]

Most impact windows are in that $1200 to $2000 range per window installed, which is a huge range I know. So let's say $1500 x 9 or $13.5K. However, the problem is I don't know what your frames/sills look like, the material of your home, whether this is full frame or retrofit, the company doing the work, the series they are actually installing, list goes on and on :)

The honest truth is that you should collect four to five bids to see what local companies are going to bid out the job. You will be shocked at how varied the bids will be (every once in a while I am shocked by how close they are, but not often).

Impact Windows Cost Calculator Question

Dane, just had my first quote to replace 9 windows with PGT 5500 impact windows. 36x71, one 52x71, one 52x86, one circular 23.5 diameter, and one 71x14. Was quoted $21,400 if I commit now or $24,620 if I wait. This seems high, but it’s post COVID and several of my neighbors used this company. Live in Bradenton. Are the PGT 5500 series not as good? Everything I researched said they wer a solid choice.

Unfortunately, I already committed to WeatherTite windows before recently your reply. I should have waited but after being so close to Ian in Bradenton I was in a hurry. A related topic here is Weather Tite Windows reviews.

Three neighbors on my street used them and their 2019 pricing was about the same as mine (maybe $2000 cheaper but not a dramatic difference. I doubt I can back out of using this company but can look at different grades of PGT. I saw you commented to another person they were a sound choice. Please advise if you think I should look at other options.

Anna, I just think that’s too much to pay for 9 units, although you might find this price is fair — but it’s gonna take a few bids before this is clear or not. Have you used our hurricane impact windows cost calculator? I think this would be far to helping you find target pricing. Having said that, here is my list of good and great windows.
