PGT a very reliable manufacturer that delivers durable and well made vinyl and aluminum windows. PGT Windows has a reputation for honoring warranties and standing behind their products. All in all, the company manufactures quality windows and doors that are ideal for the harsh Florida environment.
CWS (short for Custom Window Systems) is a well known fenestration manufacturer that specializes in impact and non-impact windows and doors. CWS is located in Ocala, Florida and has been around since 1986. Their windows and doors are readily available throughout Florida. All in all, quite a good vinyl and aluminum window and door maker - a solid option.
PGT vs CWS Windows : Products
CWS sells a number of window and door series, including the Comfort Shield, Fortify, Hurricane Guard, and the StormStrong. Specifically, the last two series are impact, while the first two series are non-impact. In terms of doors, the company sells the Comfort Shield, Fortify, and the StormStrong series.
PGT sells three main product lines, which include the WindGuard, EnergyVue, and ClassVue. Specifically, the WindGuard is an impact window and door series that is available in either vinyl or aluminum. Additionally, the EnergyVue is an non impact vinyl window series. Lastly, the ClassicVue is a non impact aluminum window and door.
How They Market
Both of these companies market their products in a very similar manner. PGT Windows markets their windows and doors through local window dealers. This is the same for Custom Window Systems. Generally, PGT has a larger reach than CWS so you will find their windows and doors available in more locations. Each of these company's products should be readily available throughout Florida.

Tallahassee Replacement Window Options
Hi Dane, happy new year! I came across your site while researching my residential window replacement project in Tallahassee FL. I entered info on your site to get three quotes, but the tool might not be nuanced enough, because I'm dividing between 8 fixed picture windows and 7 single hungs, and between 4 high-impact and 11 regular, as shown below using PGT product numbers.
I'm pretty sure I want PGT product. I thought CWS (from Ocala) as an option but I've heard they went out of business. Also, someone suggested Perfexion by Norandex as an alternative but I've yet to research them. I hope this helps you steer the opportunity to interested companies.

Fred, I think the basic approach of collecting your price bids and then going over them laid out to compare apples-to-apples is the right one. Further, I think that PGT, CWS and Norandex are all good options (Norandex is a a bit of a step down in quality from the other two). I had not heard that CWS is going out of business and I will be giving them a call later today to find out. Additionally, here are some other Florida window options that may be available to you.
