Ply Gem Windows vs Andersen

Ply Gem Windows vs Andersen

Ply Gem Windows vs Andersen - how do these two well known window brands stack up against one another. Let's take a closer look ant the companies themselves, their windows and doors, how they market, and what they will cost.

Bottom Line: Ply Gem and Andersen don't share a ton in common. Ply Gem is clearly in the vinyl window and door space, while Andersen is in the wood clad space (and to a lesser extent in the composite Fibrex window space). So they don't really compete much. Ply Gem is more of a builder supply company, while Andersen is a high end brand (and price point). Still, both company are relatively large and known brand names, and they have availability in most U.S. states.

Ply Gem Windows vs Andersen | Company Info

Ply Gem is somewhat well known in the window and door industry, but does not enjoy the sort of name recognition as Andersen (not even close). Ply Gem is more known as a building supply company than as a residential window manufacturer. This doesn't really help them in the reputation category, but within the industry, they have a good overall reputation for quality products. Their premium vinyl windows are good quality.

Andersen Windows and Doors is a well known company within the fenestration industry - quite possibly the most well know for their exceptional wood doors and windows. They have a good reputation in the industry and will continue to do so barring any unlikely future developments.

What They Sell

Ply Gem Windows manufactures quite a few windows and doors - too many in my opinion. They also market different series in different parts of the country, so that makes it even more confusing. Their more popular series include the Mira, Contractor, Pro, and Premium series. The bottom line for me is to stick with Ply Gem's Pro and Premium series in order to maximize long term return on investment.

Andersen sells the following four windows and door series: the high end Architectural wood clad series, the high quality 400 wood clad series, the well made 200 wood clad series and the 100 fibrex composite series. These are the only four window series and doors that Andersen makes. Each of these series is considered very good quality.

How They Market

This is probably the category in which these two companies share the most in common with one another. Ply Gem is available in all 50 states. They also sell through the big box stores, as well as to developers and contractors who in turn sell to their customer base. Andersen markets their w and d using a 50 state distribution channel of local companies. They sell in Home Depot, but only their 100 series. They also sell to developers and to contractors who in turn sell to their customer base.
