PGT Windows

PGT is considered a solid vinyl and aluminum window manufacturer that is available in many parts of Georgia. The companies makes a number of window lines and products, but they are perhaps best known for their hurricane impact windows and doors. The company enjoys a good reputation for honoring their warranties and standing behind their products. Many of their product lines are available in both vinyl and an aluminum option.

They company is headquartered in Venice, Florida and is available in the eastern coastal states. Pricewise, their products will typically be a bit more expensive than comparable Simonton windows, about on par with Custom Window Systems.

Zen Windows

Zen windows are a rebranded Soft-Lite window and are available in Atlanta - we don't if they are available throughout the state though. Rebadge or rebranded windows simply means that the parent company, in this case, Soft-Lite sells their windows through a specific set of distributors, using a different product name. In this case Zen Windows. Essentially, the Zen Karma is the equivalent to the Soft-Lite Barrington, the Zen Nirvana is the equivalent to the Soft-Lite Classic, and the Zen Lotus is the equivalent to the Soft-Lite Pro. While the Barrington is not considered a very good vinyl window, both the Soft-Lite Classic and the Soft-Lite Pro are considered good quality quality vinyl windows.

CWS Windows

Custom Window Systems offers a number of impact vinyl and aluminum models and series. In terms of quality, the company offers some very well made vinyl windows and doors. They are often compared to PGT on both strength, durability and price. CWS is probably less well known and this may provide consumers with slightly better pricing than PGT.

Consumers who are looking for impact windows in coast al areas should get bids from CWS and PGT dealers to see which one is the better deal. The company is out of Georgia and has been in business since 1986. Two series that we recommend include the WindPact Plus and the Icon impact aluminum frame.

Simonton Windows

Simonton is perhaps the largest replacement window company in the U.S., with distribution in nearly every state, including Georgia. Consumers can purchase Simonton windows at the big box stores, or through the countless contractors and reps who distribute and sell various models and lines. They aren't the fanciest or best looking vinyl windows, but they are well made, sturdy and reliable.

The company stands behind their products and has lots of series and models to choose from. Three models we recommend include the Reflections 5500 series, the 9800 Impressions and the ProFinish Contractor, which is similar to their entry level Asure, but at a lower price point.

Champion Windows

Champion is available in Georgia, although they might not be in all parts of the state. Champion sells their own line of vinyl windows that are good quality and pricewise will run in the mid to high end for vinyl windows cost. All of the installation is from Champion certified installers, which is part of the reason for the higher price. For the most part, installers and contractors think the window is solidly made and contructed. Some of these same contractors feel that they are a bit overpriced for what you are getting - that it is a good product but not one of the best replacement options in the vinyl category.

Replacement Windows Atlanta

Hello Dave, thank you for responding to my request, and yes, you are correct, your email address was in the comments. I am located in Gwinnett County, Georgia, 30078, just outside of Atlanta and I want to do my entire house, which has 57 windows and 1 door.

My preferences are clad-wood with surface mounted grids, wired sensors mounted in the sash and trim, double hungs that both fold down for easy cleaning, with metal latches and screens.

I would also consider vinyl vs fiberglass windows if the price and quality are better or comparable.

[Site Editor's Answer]

Zana, I would stay away from wood clad windows myself -- they typically last 20 to 25 years -- that's what the warranty says and that's about what you can expect...what I would do is buy a high end vinyl with a wood interior laminate -- Sunrise makes a nice one -- it looks remarkably like wood and without all of the headaches...

Here is my list of recommended brands and options.

Window Recommendations In Georgia

Hello Dane… we live in Florida but we need the replacements in our home in Jackson, GA. The original ones were put in back in the late 70’s. We’ve have an estimate from a big corporate company and it was way overpriced. So here’s what we need. Looking at your 5400 series. (5) 31x36, (1) 31x35, (1) 23x36, (2) 19x53 (1) picture window stationary 44x53.

The 2 19x53 are the side windows with the stationary window. We are looking for an installer in that area. One option (if not to expensive) is we’d like to have the tan/clay vs white vinyl. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you. Have a blessed day. My husband and I would like to get this done ASAP.

North Georgia Replacement Windows Reviews

Dane, thanks for the insight. We did receive a quote yesterday from North Georgia Replacement Windows (N. GA). In total we have 63 windows in the house, that are made up of double hung, arch/circle tops, rectangle transoms, picture widows, etc.

N. GA is quoting the following:

~ $2K per 28 x 74 double hung
~ $3.2K per 48 x 74 picture window
~ $6.2K for a 60 x 74 Round top for foyer
~ $1.2K for a 28 x 10 transom

Total price for all 63 is $127,000!? Dane – left out a key point on quote, there is a 25% discount on those numbers. so $97K or the Marvin Infinity series.

These all include installation, replacing exterior trim/brickmold, etc.

Thoughts on the above pricing?

Thanks.

Brian - Homeowner - from 2022

Brian, I think with the 25% discount, the price is fair if the window is the Marvin Infinity, which is what the company seems to sell from looking at their webiste. They get excellent reviews, so that's another plus for them. This is obviously not inexpensive, but I think it's a fair price for the Marvin Infinity from a company that gets such good reviews.

Having said that, I think it would help to consider a couple more bids.

Atlanta Recommendations

Tim, I'm looking to replace a large number of windows in my home. I stumbled across your website after getting a quote from Apex and trying to assess if it was competitive. In the forum it suggested to email you for your Atlanta recommendations. Could you let me know what widows and /or installers you recommend? I'd also be interested in your thoughts on a price target I should be looking for in a standard vinyl double hung window. Any info you can provide would be appreciated.

Dennis here are my Atlanta recommendations. As to what you should pay, it's hard to give a concrete number because there are so many factors that dictate price. The best thing to do is to collect three or four bids and see what local companies say -- then you can negotiate them down.

Best Atlanta Windows

Dane could you provide me a list of replacement window options that you would recommend for the north metro Atlanta area? I have an appointment with U.S. Window Factory and Apex Energy Solutions soon and would like to know how their products compare. I did visit WindowCrafters in Tucker but have not received a quote back from them yet. Any information or insight is appreciated and thank you in advanced for taking the time to respond.

Best regards.

[Site Editor's Answer]

Here are my Atlanta recommendations: Search for a Sunrise Window dealer (they sell their standard or Classic model). Their Restorations Series is their high end window and you may or may not find a dealer who sells this. The Sunrise "Standard" window uses the same frame, but does not include some of the nicer upgrades that come standard on the Restorations.

Okna has one dealer around Atlanta. Okna is one of my favorites -- their 500, 600, 700, and 800 series are all very good.

Zen carries a Nirvana and Lotus model that are relabeled Soft-Lite Classic and Pro Series, respectively. Quite good window series for the most part. They have two branches in Texas I believe.

Kensington has dealers in and around the Atlanta area and their windows are quite good.

Vinylmax should also have a dealer. Their Edison series is nice.

Replacement Windows In Georgia

I live in Mableton, GA 30126. I am looking for replacement vinyl or pvc windows for my 30 year old home. I would prefer a mid- range but I have 19 double hungs to replace, (4) 31x72, (2) 27x72, (13) 31x54, 1 picture window. Would like to keep price at 10K or less.

Can you suggest decent replacement windows available to me in my area that would fit my budget? I am also open for windows that I could purchase and hire my own installer.

Thanks.

Michele - Homeowner - from 2020

[Website Editor Answers]

Michele, Georgia is a tricky state for me to recommend brands and windows, but I'll certainly try. PGT might have a dealer in your area. Simonton will surely have dealers in your area. You should be able to get a Reflections 5500 series in the $500 to $600 range installed. This is a good window at a decent price.

Sunrise might have a dealer in your area. Ply Gem as well, although I would stick to their higher end windows if I were you. Other good brands that may or may not be in your area include Soft-Lite, Polaris, Kensington and Vytex. You could check for local dealers, but this might not work.

Finally, the Andersen 100 window might be available through Home Depot replacement windows. You could hire a local installer and have him measure your windows and then you could purchase the order from HD.
