Overall Rating: Great American Exteriors gets a 4.4 out of 5 stars based on 5 consumer reviews below.

My Take On This Company: To be honest, there's not all that much here to really get excited about for me. Okay reviews and windows that I've never heard of. However, the company might sell a relabeled Lindsay Window, but have 't been able to confirm with the company. Perhaps I'll wait for some actual consumer reviews to come through our site before I say much more than this.

What The Company Sells And Installs

What windows does Great American Exteriors sell? The company sells vinyl, fiberglass and wood windows and doors. In terms of brands, GAE sells Havington Windows, which I had honestly not heard of prior to this. While I did google this window brand, nothing really came up (except for Great American Exteriors). This is a bit of a red flag for me, but perhaps they are made by a reputable company and relabeled for GAE. However, I have heard that these are relabeled Lindsay Windows, but have not been able to confirm (although I did reach out to the company itself).

Warranty Information

The company offers a non prorated lifetime labor warranty that may be transferred to one additional homeowner. Additionally, there are no service call fees as with some installation companies. Finally, the company offers free glass replacement (3x per window) - I’ve actually never heard of this before so that is very cool.

The product warranty on the actual windows and doors will come from the manufacturer (not the installation company). Therefore, before you decide on a brand, it’s a good idea to always read the manufacturer’s warranty and check the terms, provisions, and exclusions.

Price Quotes Advice

For the past two months, I've been getting bids, which are as follows:

Scientific Home Services - $5.8K (selling Soft Lite windows)
ThermalCraft - $5.7K (selling the Alside Mezzo windows)
Great American Exteriors: $8.8K (selling Havington windows)
Illinois Energy Windows: $11.8K (selling Worthington Windows)

[Site Editor's Answer]

My advice here is to go with Scientific Home Services - $5.8K (selling Soft Lite windows). So this is your lowest bid and this is the brand that I like the most. Easy choice here for me.

Great American Exteriors Reviews

Hi, I don’t have much experience with windows, but we need to replace several in our home. I’m not looking for a premium, top-tier product, but I also want to avoid low-quality windows that could cause issues down the road. We’ve received estimates for eight double-hung windows in the bedrooms, plus a large picture window with a double-hung unit on each side. We’re located in Illinois and our house sits along a busy street.

The companies we’ve received quotes from include:

Ply Gem
Simonton ProFinish Builder
Simonton 5500 Series
Sun View by Lindsay Windows
Sunrise Windows
Great American Exteriors (own window maybe...)

How would you rank these options in terms of quality and overall value?

[Site Editor’s Response]

Theresa, it’s great that you’ve gathered four bids—that’s a smart first step. Of the brands you mentioned, Sunrise windows stands out as the strongest option overall. However, if the quote is for the Sunrise Essentials line, keep in mind that it’s their entry-level model. I would recommend their standard Sunrise frame or one of their upgraded lines, such as Verde, Vanguard, or Restorations. Most Sunrise dealers can provide pricing on these models, and even their standard frame is a solid performer.

I’m not very familiar with Sun View by Lindsay Widows. After reviewing their website, I couldn’t find detailed performance data or energy efficiency ratings, so it’s difficult to evaluate how they compare.

Ply Gem offers several product lines. Their Builder Series tends to be lower quality, the Contractor Series is average, and the Premium Series is a much stronger product—roughly comparable to Sunrise’s standard line. As for Simonton, the ProFinish Builder model is not one of their better offerings. Within the ProFinish line, the Contractor and Master models are more respectable, though still mid-range. The Simonton 5500 Reflections window, on the other hand, is a well-regarded window. If available, you might also inquire about the Simonton 9800 series, which is another high-quality option.

If it were my project, I would focus on the Sunrise (standard or upgraded line) and the Simonton 5500 series. Once you’ve narrowed it down, you can try negotiating the replacement window price. Let each company know you’re comparing multiple bids and ask if they can improve their offer—sometimes even mentioning that a competitor came in several hundred dollars lower can encourage them to reduce the price.

Great American Exteriors is not yet on my radar so I'm going to pass on ranking them for your own good :) I hope that this helped and best of luck with your project!
