Window Nation vs Renewal By Andersen | Compare These Company Brands

Window Nation vs Renewal By Andersen

Window Nation vs Renewal By Andersen - let's compare these company brands, cost, marketing and windows that they sell. WN concentrates on installing exclusively vinyl windows and doors. They are available in the north east and mid west and they sell some good vinyl windows, but often at a price that I find higher than I would like to see. Conversely, Renewal is a franchise of Andersen Windows and Doors that sells a composite fibrex window. Additionally, they have a presence in all 50 states and they charge some of the highest prices in the industry.

Bottom Line: Both of these companies are worth a bid in my opinion, but I would be wary about the price point of each - especially the Renewal.

Window Nation vs Renewal By Andersen

Company Information

Window Nation has been around since 2006 and is a relatively well known company in the window and door space. In 2021, the owners of WN sold the company to a private equity firm called AEA. In 2024 (at the writing of this article), Window Nation operates some 20 branches across many of the mid west and atlantic states. Like Renewal, WN locates their branches in large metro markets (such as Atlanta, Georgia) in order to take advantage of high consumer demand.

Renewal By Andersen is a franchise of Andersen, meaning that each branch is owned separately (although certainly a single owner could own multiple branches). Each branch has an exclusive right to sell in their specific metro market and they typically have a subcontracting company that handles all of their installations. I believe in some cases the Renewal branches have their own crew that they pay as 1099s, but in all cases the installers are not directly hired by the Renewal branches. Each branch has to buy their products from Andersen Windows and must turn over a portion of their profit to them as well (as all franchises do).

What They Sell

Unlike Renewal, Window Nation is an installer, not a manufacturer. (Although to be fair Renewal By Andersen sources their windows from their parent company Andersen, so they are also an installer in a very strict sense.) Window Nation sells a number of different window series, which includes Vytex, Soft-Lite, AMI, and Alside. The first two brands are good quality, while the last two brands are not all that impressive as far as I'm concerned. Their most popular window series include the Vytex Georgetown, Grandview and Potomac HP, as well as the Soft-Lite Bainbridge and Imperial LS.

Renewal sells a single fibrex composite window and door that they source from Andersen. So, as I said before, Renewal is more of an installer than a manufacturer in the literal sense of the word. The Renewal window is made of the same material as that which is used in the Andersen 100 series window. However, the Renewal is upgraded in nearly all aspects, from the thickness of the frame to the glass, components, and hardware. All in all, quite a nice window (and patio door).

How They Market

Window Nation and Renewal share a lot in common in terms of how they advertise. Both advertises their branches in the local markets where they operate. This might be in local t.v. spots, social media, magazines, flyers etc. Window Nation tends to go after a slightly less affluent clientele, while Renewal bills themself as the creme de la creme in terms of window quality. Personally, I would rather have a Soft-Lite Imperial LS in my home than the fibrex option. In my opinion, this is backed up by energy efficient numbers.

Cost Comparison

Window Nation prices are going to be 4 out of 5 on average when compared to other vinyl window companies. WN is a decent size operation and therefore has higher overhead that they pass onto the consumer. The flip side is that you know you are getting a good window and (hopefully) good installation. If anything does go wrong, you know exactly who to talk to. Basically, it is a give and take here.

Renewal By Andersen costs are going to be some of the highest in the industry. For instance, compare the expected price of the Okna Starmark to the Renewal. Hint, the Okna is the better window at roughly half the cost of the Renewal. This high price point is one of the reasons that there are so many Renewal By Andersen complaints floating around out there.

Part of the reason for Renewals high prices is that the Renewal franchisees have to pay their franchiser a portion of their profits. Therefore, the decrease to their bottom line is often passed onto the consumer. Additionally, Renewal's elevated price point is due to the fact that Andersen is a well known name. Therefore, consumers often pay more money for a product that they perceive is better than others in the industry.
