As I collect additional consumer reviews, I will update my overall take on this relatively new company that specializes in roofing first -- and windows, doors, and siding second.

Recommended Options

Hi Dane, I came across several of your youtube videos. They're really helpful. I live in Pennsylvania so am looking for windows I can get in this part of the country. Would you mind sending your recommended list to me?

Also, are windows sold only through Installers, or can I buy them from a manufacturer rep and either install them myself or hire someone I want to install them? Specifically, I'm interested in Polaris, Anlin, Okna, Soft-Lite, based on your youtube content. Any Milgard dealers?

Bob, sorry it must have gone to my spam folder for some reason. So here are my Pennsylvania recommendations... Soft-Lite windows will be available through dealers or throug a Zen dealer and I'm not sure about Polaris in that state (I think probably yes). But I think there are some good options in the list I send. The only Milgard dealer that I know of is cr3 exteriors, so give them a call.

As to the replacement windows DIY purchase, it's a crapshoot really. Most of the time...no but that's not a hard fast rule. There are no rules in this odd industry :) Try a couple of companies and let me know if anyone will sell to you directly. I know that there were some Okna window dealers on the east coast that do it, but they're not in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Replacement Window Options

Hi Dane, I just found your email, sorry, I am late in getting back to you. Unfortunately, salesman asked Sunrise about replacing the black spacer, but they said no. So, window replacement has become very stressful and costs and quality is all over the place. We're in Pennsylvania btw. Marvin Essential windows we love. but their cost is way over priced. They are making a lot of money at consumers expense. Not enough competition. Trying to find a decent narrow lined window is difficult especially without the black spacer. We saw a ProVia window but had black also and not sure about quality.

Any other recommendations would be appreciated! Our friends have 20 year old 8500
Atrium vinyl windows still looks new and have been great windows and will probably last 20 more years. Thank you for any additional advice!

Wendy, ProVia Windows is a very good manufacturer - very high quality. If you are in Pennsylvania, you could try CR3 American Exteriors, who rep Milgard Windows, and they may be able to switch out the spacer color.

The problem you have is that most insulated glass units are made at the factory and that spacer is usually very standard. Not many customizations available in that part in general. However, you never know. Did I send you my list of recommended brands? If not, here you go - if I already did, then I apologize. This is a great place to start.

CR3 American Exteriors Prices

Hi Dane, I stumbled across your website when researching replacement windows after getting an expensive quote from CR3 Exteriors to replace 7 double-hung windows (over $19,000 that dropped to $15,500 at the end of a 3-hour sales pitch). So, I have an older house with vinyl windows that are showing their age.

They have condensation between windows, let in quite a bit of heat, have worn springs, or a combination of the three. Also, my west-facing windows are my biggest problem so far this summer because of heat gain.

In total, I have 17 windows that will need to be replaced. While this isn't a forever home for me, it is more like a 5-year home. Therefore, I'm looking for an economical option that improves the energy efficiency and comfortability of the home. Can I get your list of window recommendations? Are there any standouts in quality and affordability?

Rebecca - Homeowner - from 2025

Editor Reply

Rebecca, the CR3 bid is very high if it's on their Milgard vinyl windows. If it's on their Andersen wood windows, then that's a pretty fair quote (the $15.5K, not the $19K). Regardless, let's say you have one decent quote so far on a good quality window (again if its on Andersen wood clad windows). So now you need at least a couple more, but I would prefer you collect 3 more.

Toward that end, here is my list of good and great windows for you to take a look at and let me know if you have any additional questions. First, gather some additional leads and then let's go from there and get you a great window at a fair price. Have you checked out our CR3 American Exteriors reviews page, which might have some additional consumer price quotes from the company for reference.

CR3 or Renewal By Anderson Prices

Around a decade ago I (13 years ago) bought Renewal By Anderson windows: 3 double hungs (1 wide) and 1 slider. Total cost was $5,236. I thought it was too much and now I want to consider going with a vinyl window. Is this smart? Thank you in advance for your help - I live outside of Philly if that matters.

Suzanne - Homeowner - from 2019

[Site Editor's Answer]

Suzanne, Renewal is not a cheap option. I personally think vinyl is an excellent way to go as long as you buy a quality vinyl window. Some brands I like include Okna, Sunrise Windows, Polaris, Soft-Lite, Kensington, Zen and Simonton. You can buy their premium window series and still save a good 40% over the Renewals.

Renewal By Anderson Cost

Starting to get overly confused on which window and company to use. Live western Suburb of Philadelphia. Just want a decent window that is somewhat efficient will last five years.

Renewal By Anderson prices seems crazy to me. $5806 for 3 windows. Any help would be appreciated highly.

Calvin - Homeowner - from 2019

[Site Editor's Answer]

Calvin, that RBA quote is pretty much what they charge for their windows. I agree, it seems pretty crazy to pay $1850 per window.

Check to see if any of these brands are available in your town by doing a search on google Sunrise windows in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for instance. A company who is in your area and does sell Sunrise windows should pull up on the first page. Sunrise, Okna, Soft-Lite, Zen, Polaris, Vytex and Milgard are all brands that make good vinyl windows.

You can go with their mid range series and you should be getting a very solid window. I know that CR3 exteriors sells the Milgard option, as well as the Andersen 100 series is the same frame material as the Renewal, but it will be much less expensive that the Renewal By Andersen cost.
