What They Sell And Install

River City Windows sells and installs a number of quality window and door brands. The company is a certified InstallationMasters installer for the various brands they install. Brands they rep and install include Anlin Windows, Alside, Jeld Wen, Milgard, Ply Gem, Premium Windows And Doors, and Simonton. In terms of windows, I particularly like Anlin, Milgard, and Simonton windows (their premium series only). I’m more so-so on Jeld Wen, Ply Gem, and Premium Windows. The one caveat to my so-so list is Jeld Wen doors, which are high quality.

Warranty Information

There are two warranties that come with any replacement window and patio door project. The first is the labor warranty, which comes from the installation company - in this case River City Windows. While there is very little warranty information posted on their website, they do state that they provide a lifetime labor warranty. This obviously applies to the original buyer. What isn’t clear to me (yet) is whether there is any transferability of the labor warranty to a subsequent owner. My guess is probably not.

The second warranty is from the window and door manufacturer. And because River City Windows sells and installs so many brands, it’s hard to detail each warranty timeline and the specific provisions of each. However, our replacement windows warranty page does provide the outlines for most of these companies (probably not Premium Windows And Doors, but the other options).

River City Windows Price Quote

We ended up using River City Windows after getting four different quotes, and I’m glad we did. They were straightforward and easy to work with from the start. My biggest advice: get multiple quotes and make the companies compete for your business.

When I showed the salesperson the lower quote we got from SouthGate Glass, they matched it and brought the price down to earn my business. They also took the time to explain the quality of their installation materials, pointing out details like their use of high end caulking that the other guys don't use. I appreciate the little things like this.

What really stood out was how they stood behind their work. A few months after installation, we had an issue with one of the balances on a window and they were out the very next day and replaced the internal balance. Awesome. Around the same time, I noticed a couple pieces of plastic on a sliding window screen had cracked. They came out, ordered replacement parts, and within a couple of weeks they swapped them out. Double awesome.

They installed Anlin windows (not their top of the line, but still a good vinyl window according the Geoff), which came with a lifetime warranty, and the accidental breakage coverage was a huge selling point for me. Their lead guy Geoff specifically pointed out the warranty and said, “See how they don’t have an asterisk in the warranty?” When I compared the Anlin warranty to my other quotes, I noticed that competitors only covered accidental breakage under very specific circumstances.

With Anlin, there are no restrictions. I even asked, “what if my son throws a ball right through the window?” and his answer was yes, it’s covered. Hopefully I’ll never need it (my son eventually gave up on little league, not awesome), but it’s great peace of mind knowing that if something does happen, we’re protected. I’m satisfied.

Kell, that’s great to hear that your experience with River City was pleasant. Issues do arise (even with a company like Anlin) - so that’s when that warranty really does come in handy. Good to hear that River City handled your concerns and issues. I will be sure to post this on our River City Windows reviews page for other Bay Area homeowners to check out.

Sacramento California Replacement Windows

Good morning -- I happened upon your site and am wondering if you could give me an opinion on choosing between the Simonton Daylight Max and the Anlin Del Mar replacement windows? I live outside of Sacramento, CA where the temperatures range from 28 degree lows in the winter to 112 highs in the summer. And every year it seems to get a bit worse in my not-so-humble opinion. I really do appreciate your time so thanks very much.

Robyn - Homeowner - from 2024

[Site Editor's Answer]

Robyn, both of these windows are quite decent to good, but the Simonton Daylight Max is not as good as the Anlin Del Mar window. The Daylight Max is more of an entry level to mid range vinyl window that uses a thinner frame with more glass area. The Anlin Del Mar is perhaps the best vinyl window on the west coast. So -- go with the Del Mar option and you will be quite happy come year 8 and beyond.

River City Windows Reviews

Dear Dane, we are in the process of replacing windows and have gotten a quote from an installer for MI Energy Core windows. However, after doing some research online, it appears that MI windows are a lower quality window and have gotten some bad reviews (as well as a class action lawsuit).

We are looking for a good quality mid-range window. We basically need 8 23"W x 59"H double-hung windows and 10 23"W x 59"H single hung windows. Looking at your website, Simonton appears to be a good brand. However the series names that are listed on the website do not match up with the collection names on the Simonton website. I'm assuming they just came out with new names? Can you recommend which Simonton collections are the better quality ones and which to stay away from? Is there another brand that you recommend over Simonton?

We live in the mountains outside of Sac town Ca. Our house is pretty shaded, but we do get quite a bit of sun, as well as 19" on average of rain and 59" of snow (not sure if any of this matters). Also, do you recommend vinyl vs aluminum windows (or fiberglass)? Thank you very much for your time,

[Site Editor's Response]

Melissa, I would have to agree to the MI is not typically on many contractors top 10 list. The Energy Core is not bad though, although I haven't seen numbers on it. In terms of good mid range vinyl windows on the west, I would say look at Milgard, Amerimax and Anlin. Milgard will be available for sure, Amerimax possibly and I don't know whether Anlin has reps in your area. Check with River City and Northwest Exteriors for the Anlin and Milgard window options. And gets bids from both to check on pricing

I would say stick with vinyl, although fiberglass is certainly an option. Aluminum is really only something you should consider if you are in very hot climates, which Albuqueque is not based on the fact that you get that much snow. Fiberglass options should include Marvin Infinity Windows, Inline, and Milgard Ultra.

Simonton is a good brand, probably not as good as the ones I mentioned, although it all depends on which model you select. I like their 9800 Impressions, and their Reflections 5300 and 5500 series.
